I need a fuel sender for my 68 GTO. I am going to buy aftermarket guage and install underdash next to oil and temp guage. I do not want to pull dash out again to replace gas guage at this time. What ohm sender do I need. I will be replacing factory guage a little later, but for now I will make do with a guage under the dash.

Factory range is 0-90 ohms.

Do you have a bad sending unit in the tank or is it the gauge in the dash? You state you need a fuel sender then refer to a new gauge under the dash.
68 & 69 fuel sending units in the tank went bad quite often. Its due to a crimped on connection on the unit itself in the tank. Over years, it loses its continuity. Mine went bad, I ordered a new unit and when I pulled the old unit from the tank found it just had a bad connection. So I soldered it together and it worked fine. Put the old unit back in. Now I got a brand new unit on the shelf. I guess everyone should have a spare.

Previous owner told me he had replaced cluster with a used one and the gauge never worked after that. I also need to remove tank for some trunk floor repair and it is a good time to replace sending unit in tank since I will have tank out anyway. The sending unit is just preventive maintance since it will be so easy to replace and then I won't have to worry about it anymore.

I'd test it first, and if it works, don't change it...the old saying of "If it ain't broke...."

Easy to replace afterwards when it does go bad...I did mine by dropping tank low enough and took me about 1 hr total.
