I am re-installing dimmer switch and cruise control actuator on the steering column on my 76 GP. Unfortunately the wiring was gone, so I have to put new wires through the column. My question is, where should I thread the wires? Should they go the same route as the turn signal wiring on the lower right? Or, should they go on the left side where there is a small round passage just below where the wires come in from the dimmer switch and close below the turn signal lever? The new column dimmer switch has a soft wire protector, and for the cruise control I have improvised and created a plastic sheathing.

Any way I try it seems impossible to get the wiring through. Any advice? Pics?

The best way to install it is to thread a single piece of wire donw through the top & then when it sticks out the bottom tape the wires all together with some black tape as small of a bundle as you can then pull it up through the coloumn until you get it up to where you need it, then untape the bundle so you can hook up your wires where they go.

Yes. The cruise wiring had it's own plastic conduit part that will protect it from the rotating shift bowl.

I have studied the service manual now, but if anyone could confirm what I think it shows, that would be great. I read the drawings as if the wires should go down the round opening indicated in the attached photo. Does that seem right?

Yes It should go into the plastic covering to help to keep it from chaffing the wires as it rubs on the shift bowl & yes the other wires go throught the same path as the turn signal wiring down through the left side as your looking at it while sitting in the car.

Once the cruise lever is installed into the column, that plastic piece can be slid on the cruise wire and then attached to the plastic protector on the turn signal switch.
