As a long time classic rock buff one of my favorite things to do is dig a little deeper and find the artists and albums that tend to be overshadowed by the big names of '60s and '70s classic rock.

Anyone else get a little burned out on hearing Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Journey all the time?

Absolutely fried on the same Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Journey, etc. songs. I like everything except hip-hop and rap, and have a lot of moldy old vinyl, even 78's. For obscure rock, I like '60's punk/garage bands, and a bunch of it is on youtube. The Remains, The Castaways, Bobby Fuller, Link Wray, Richard and the Young Lions, etc. For more mainstream stuff, I like Spirit, The Standells, The Kinks, The 13th floor Elevators, Joe South, Tony Joe White, Commander Cody, Doobie Brothers (pre macdonald), Humble Pie, etc. etc. The list goes on and on. There is SO MUCH more to listen to other than the same worn out Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones songs.

Love the '60 garage bands. I have the Nuggets box set which has a pretty good variety of garage band one hit wonders.

I've been into Humble Pie and the The Faces lately too. Good stuff that you rarely hear on the radio.

Sirius channels Underground Garage and Deep Tracks are pretty good channels for finding the odd stuff. Jim Ladd's show on Deep Tracks is one of my favorites.

Jerry Jeff Walker, John Hammond, The Dead, Janis, Jimi, Neil Young, not obscure but always takes me back to the planet I came from for a brief visit.

I love the obscure stuff (especially 50's & 60's garage bands) too but I save that for when it's time to get guests to go home (increasing the volume helps too).

That's pretty much the reason WHY I've quit listen to the radio and am buying more CDs. If I hear one more Led Zepplin tune, I may just scream.

I don't buy CD's - everything you can download for cheap or free now.

The Ravyns made limited national sucess, but they were a big-time local Baltimore band.

If you never heard of them, but like the typical hair band sound, you need to liste this one through becaues you will not be dissapointed

For Me: The problem w some downloads vs CD, Vinyl, or Tape is the Dynamic Range loss of sound. Often the Highs and Lows are chopped off and compressed rendering the songs no longer Hi Fidelity sonically on any quality sound system.

Sounds ok though on iPad, cheap sound system, etc. Some of Pandora Channels can sound pretty good streaming on surround sound Hi-Fi too.

The takeaway: Some classic songs sound completely different analog vs digital vs streaming...

Schenker, Nugent, Derringer where 3 my fav's back in the 70's. There was another...but brain still to foggy from skunk weed
Wasn't into the radio stuff. Went and watch'm live. Only way to really get their best.
There was a place in Lynwood Il. called Pointe East.
Many early rock bands there b4 they became famous. Place was awesome. You where right there just several ft away.
Forgot how bad ass music was back then. Thanks for the trip lol.

Frijid Pink is some heavy stuff! Reminds me of Blue Cheer.

Rory Gallagher's first band, Taste, is similar to Cream. They opened for Cream's farewell concert and for Blind Faith on their only US tour.

Only recognize a few of the artists/bands listed so far.

There were so many bands and songs that I connected with. I was listening to "progressive rock" or AOR radio in the early '70s, WMMR in Phila, then to Chicago for college, it was WXRT, though I always thought WMMR was superior in those days.

Had to look at a list to remember, but here's a few that popped out:

Chicago (first couple albums)
ZZ Top
Allman Brothers
Steppenwolf

I could go on and on.

Don't know how far off the beaten path these are, but still like to hear this stuff today.

I got fried on classic rock too. still listen to a couple stations on my xm radio but really listen
mostly to xm channel 70 bb kings bluesville the most. its a little hit and miss with what they play but you hear some really great tunes. hear everything from 1930's stuff , time to change the station , to new blues artists. you even hear artists you don't expect like Jimi Hendrix .
