If they took off the cowl/vin tag for their own LS3 project, I was also wondering what they will be using for title/reg. Do they just rotate cowl/vin tags from various cars until they get a combo that works? How does this even approach being some small sliver of legality?

When I bought my Lemans, even with a notarized title in hand for transfer, I still had to spend about half an hour at the MVD with the car on a trailer while they inspected cowl tag, vin plate, and door vin for serial numbers to make sure it wasn't some sort of chop shop special. They even got out some paint stripper to check a painted over tag. I narrowly missed getting the body cavity search and DNA profiling.

I guess AZ is "special", and they don't do things like that in them there parts of Kentucky.

Marxjunk, that was an interesting insight about the auction thing. It seems, tho, they would risk scaring away potential real buyers who aren't so "hip" to the method.

have you noticed 25 dollar parts with a buy it now of 10 grand and it sells for 25? with a make offer?

a high price sets it up to be the first piece when a guy does a search and options highest first in the search

the guy is fishing to see what its really worth..he has no idea..if someone makes a redic offer he takes it..i'm sure he has an idea where he wants to really sell it..see it all the time...with a make offer style auction there no reserve fees from ebay...and no one can steal it because hes set it too low

I'm not familiar with a 7042274. The 270 and 273 are the 455HO carbs, and I think the 276 and 278 are high altitude carbs.

You guys are looking at this all wrong! This is a whole new market emerging! We are here at the ground floor! This is like buying Microsoft stock when it first came out! I like this! I'm going to start hunting down "numbers matching" engines and trans's right now! :P lol You have to love stuff like this. I assume he thinks it's hot because it might make some car "period correct". He's neglecting the fact that you can basically by a nice running car for the price of his engine and trans. I don't think the market research was really done here. We should watch it though. If it sells to some "genius" the guy might be onto something! :P

me too! lord! 7 grand for a used 74 455 engine? i guess that makes my old cars worth tens of thousands of dollars! glad i didnt sell them for 500 bucks a few years back--wonder what BBC engines will go for? 20 grand at barrett jackson? ill just wheel an old greasy 454 out on the stage on a cherry picker and collect my millions!
