Default Royal Oak announces plans for vacant property...

...located at 400 N Main St.

Yep - that's the old Royal Pontiac location.

Keith, The proposed new hotel is one of the ugliest new buildings I've seen. What's up with that?

Qustion 2... How much federal funds are being spent for revialization in this area?

Not a local yocal car show supporter, but seems like those that are into that kind of thing would seize on the opportunity to have a big Pontiac show on the premises, if it could be arranged, before the wrecking ball arrives.

Can't comment on the appearance; it looks like every other new building I've seen lately.

I am not aware of any federal funds in Southeast Michigan (even in Detroit). If anyone has any specifics I'd be interested to know. In this case I assume the 5 private developers are pony-ing up the funds.

There has been discussion on several occasions about one last hurrah at the old Royal site but it never has come to pass.

Gotta question the demand for such a hotel in that area. I suppose its appropriate that the figures in the artist's rendering look like ghosts...

It would certainly be filled up next week.

On a related note, do the cars look like Pontiac G8's?

Wow and talk about a coincidence that a GTO would be there are took that pic!

It would at lease be nice if they had some Royal Pontiac related memorabilia in the lobby.

Interesting perspective. If that old brick house could talk.......
There was a small mom and pop Pontiac dealer a few miles away. I passed the empty building many a time. They had a wonderful Pontiac dealer sign on the front of the building. I thought of looking up the owner and purchasing it. As typical I hesitated. One day I drove by and dozers were doing their job. I keep looking for the sign to show up some place but my guess, it went into the landfill. Tractor Supply now stands in that location.

That vintage picture of the Royal Dealership is a great one. That was one handsome dealership and great history. The replacement Hotel is typical generic box, but still probably better than an abandoned, boarded up building.

True.

As I was going back through those old posts I noticed an advertisement for the property, which I would imagine was a very desireable good sized chunk of land right in town.

It seemed to indicate Fresard sold it for $3.5 million.

Kerry, I was in Vo-Tech school with a guy that ended up working there after we graduated. He ordered a Dark Blue 74 SD Trans Am after he started working full time. Lost track of him over the years. You are not the only one that wonders what happened to that old dealership sign. OBTW, it was Wenger Pontiac.

Cool looking property. Yea too bad that hotel blocks the view BUTT the hotel appears to provide much needed shade during a useful part of the day.

What's that "rest of the story" GTO etc. link again Keith?
Seriously, some new members may be interested.
