to Extend life of Racing Belts to 5 Years: (please sign)
Drag Racing Seat belts certification good for 5 years (NHRA) Currently the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) requires new seat belts be installed every 2 years for drag racing competition. These seat belts cost an entry price of $59.99 and range up to $250. They are usually 4" wide construction and 5 point harness with heavy galvanized hardware. These seatbelts have a lot more life in them then 2 years. After 2 years, the galvanize finish isn't even dull. While you can get these recertified, the cost + shipping makes it not worth the effort. I believe these seat belts are good without compromise for at least 5 years. Consider your daily driving car has a basic 3" ribbon style seat belt that never needs changing... These massive 4" /5pt harness are barely used in comparison to daily driving and yet require changing every 2 years... this is a massive waist of money and only benefilts seat belt manfacturers. SIGN THIS PETITION AND PASS IT ON TO YOUR RACER FRIENDS IF YOU AGREE. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/147/4...9074&cid=fb_na

Its WAY Overkill. Once I was at a old junkyard and needed a windshield frame for a 65 Corvette. The guy looped the seal belts together and lifted the whole car with a forklift out of the line of cars it was in across a field to an open spot. Those belts were 35 years old, sun beaten and still held up the body and frame.

On the street, it's a little different. I think my harnesses last about 4-5 years before they start to fray. A factory belt, which is more like nylon, seems to be impervious to UV exposure. My RJS harness is like cloth type feeling. Hope I didn't tell you something you already know. Passing on signing - not really involved in racing enough. Sorry. Also I should mention that I strapped in my RJS harness probably some 2400 times in a street car over 4-years. That's not gonna help with fraying.
