Default Fan shroud application

There are 2 different part numbers for fan shrouds

9795194
9795359

After some searching it is unclear what the applications are. Some say the difference is HD cooling (4 core radiator?). Have also heard one has a extra baffle. Also, it has been stated that the 5359 is simply superseded the 5194.

Now if you look at the reproduction shrouds available. You have the option of a 4 core or 3 core shroud.

I have never seen a physical difference in fan shrouds. the rubber inserts seem to be different to accommodate different radiator take thicknesses.

Can anyone shed some lite on the differences between the 2 part numbers and the 3 vs. 4 core reproduction fan shrouds.

What year?

My parts books says the 68 PN is 9790785 for all 68 Tempest V8s.
The original shroud off my 68 GTO has the part number 9790785 - 2A-3

Books says all A body 69-72 487330

Doesn't show any alternative part numbers for Heavy Duty Cooling, or AC etc.

But these parts books can be kinda screwy sometimes.

This is for 1969. Sorry for the confusion.

I think the 487330 came out after 1970 and superseded both the 5359 and 5194.

Default Different

The 9795194 is for a 3 core rad. 9795359 is for a 4 core. I just went thru this myself. Couldn't see a bit of difference until I put the shrouds against the radiator. The difference is on the LH edge (drivers side) where the shroud sits against the radiator along the return tank. Because the 4 core return tank is wider (fore-aft) the shroud is different to accomodate the wider tank. I'll try to post pics but my tablet doesnt cooperate sometimes. I have both so can easily show you.

Basically you can use the 4 core shroud on a 3 core rad but not the other way around. What really complicates things is many aftermarket 3 core rads use the wider 4 code return tank. This is how I discovered the difference.

Smile Thin one

Yeah, the thinner is for a 4 core...or....for a replacement 3 core radiator that uses the wider 4 core inlet tank. I could use an extra of each as well if you have...
Thanks!
