I looked in my 70 assembly manual and could not find a diagram of the flare mounting. I did find a page in the 73 assembly manual.
![]() The front flares seem to mount with 6 fasteners: 2 bolts from the inside of the fender that go into captures clips on the inside of the flare, 3 trim screws that screw into the underside of the wheel lip, and 1 bolt that secures the flare to the end of the front spoiler. What size are the 3 trim screws that go into the underside of the wheel lip? Are they hex head or Philips head? For the rear flares the diagram is not as clear. Does anyone have a better assembly manual picture for a 70 or 71 or 72? The rears have two nuts that go on the studs of the flare from inside the quarter panel. Are there trim screws that go into the wheel lip area? If so how many? Again what size and head type? There are two tabs on the bottom of the rear flare. Are these secured using trim screws, or something bigger? What size and head? My original car had the flares cobbled onto the car. I am using repro flares, that have no holes pre drilled. Hence the reason for this post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Go here to this thread on the 1,700 mile SD455 T/A. Somewhere in there I asked Charlie to take photos of the trim screws. It turns out the assembly line used whatever they had. See the photos.

The rear flares have three screws Those that were in mine look like part number 9879001, page 77 in the AMK catalog (B-11074)
The screws that hold the front flares on (9796223) are 5/16-12x1" washer head screws. Not sure on the 4883080 screw yet. Pg. 98 of the 70 Firebird supplement service manual has a pic of spoiler assy. but no hardware Id. Last edited by FunctionalShaker; 09-03-2017 at 03:33 PM. |

Here's the page I was referring to. One car (untouched 1,700 miles) with four different screw types.

Maybe Craig (Norwood) can show us what he has on his car?
