My '64 GTO Initial Startup in 2012
I was just looking through videos and spotted the first-time startup of my '64 GTO near the completion of the restoration. Thought you may enjoy the video.

Thanks for sharing! The mufflers definitely did NOT sound too loud to me!!
And may I say it is just WRONG to see the nose of your wife's '64 in the garage. I am way jealous of your two '64 household. |

I'm also jealous of your wife who is right there with you filing and the like. But I think those "she's a keeper" comments have been said before. Worth repeating of course

Nice video. What mufflers do you have on the car?

I put a complete stainless steel Pypes X pipe system on the car with Pypes mufflers. There were three choices for mufflers--I picked the least aggressive--less noise versions. I'm pleased with the sound--no resonating on the highway, but it perks you up when the Tripower opens.
Pypes does a great job of bending the pipes--the system fit very well. I had never installed a complete exhaust system before--only mufflers, after which I always say I'll never do it again. But, this installation was not that difficult.

Thanks Dick. I have all of my system except have not chosen a muffler yet. That helps.

When the car was judged in 2013 at the Dayton Co-Vention by GTOAA, I was docked some points for the '67 H.O. exhaust manifolds and X pipe system, but still made the "Concours Gold" level. I had to use '72 style splitters, as the '64/'65 splitters would not fit the 2 1/2" tailpipes.
After building motor with '64 Tripower, '64 heads, '64 everything, I could not convince myself to put the stubby log exhaust manifolds on the car. The '67 HO manifolds fit perfectly with no modifications and the 2 1/2" stainless steel downpipes I bought from Ames bolted up with no trouble. The X-pipe changes the sound of any engine vs. separate exhausts, but whether you like that or not is a matter of personal opinion. I like it.
