Evans Waterless Coolant
Anybody use this product? If so, did you regret using it?

I know one guy that uses it. I've been around the car a lot, done some work on it even. I can't tell that it cools any better than normal coolant.

I've considered it, but to be honest, I'm very happy with my current distilled water/WaterWetter/antifreeze mixture I run. I might use it in my next new Ducati after the 600-mile service.
I think it is fantastic for an antique vehicle that sits for very prolonged periods of time. But something that's driven regularly and maintained proactively, I don't see sufficient enough of an advantage to bother with it.

Evans Waterless Coolant
Tried it . Didn't work for me even though Ray Bohacz (writer and tech columnist for Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine thinks it's greatest thing since sliced bread.
After multiple calls to Evans Tech I tried it. Was trying to help get rid of a pinging problem and anything I could do to keep coolant temps down would have helped. To their credit they never said it "would help" only that it "might". Their selling points are that the boiling temp is 300 something degrees therefore your engine won't boil coolant out and since it's waterless no corrosion and never has to be replaced. I bought it along with their pre flush. Followed instructions. After install sent them a sample to make sure I had got all the water out. Results of test sample were way below acceptable limits for water contamination. My car (69 GTO) ran hotter and detonated more. When I called tech and told them it was running hotter they said "yea that sometimes happens but it won't boil to like 320 degrees so motor on". I don't know about everyone else but I start getting nervous when temp gauge goes over 200 even though newer cars routinely run around 210. Another thing I noticed is that it's thicker than water/antifreeze mix and maybe that was some of problem. Water pump had hard time pumping it and coolant flow rate through radiator was reduced. When I was a kid at home we had farm tractor that would routinely boil over in summer time when working it hard and I can see that Evans might work in that application. Before I bought, I also read a testimonial from a guy that had a dirt/off road motorcycle that routinely boiled over and after switching to Evans no more boil over and he was happy. Bottom line it didn't work for me. I drained it out and went back to distilled water, antifreeze, bottle of Red Line Water Wetter mix as quick as I could. I've got the Evans Coolant and Prep Fluid out in shed with about 75 miles on it. Anybody wanna buy it? |

That’s some expensive fluid if people are trying to sell used stuff.

It very much is. I think it's similar to what the US Navy runs as a coolant in their subs. It's supposed to have better heat transfer than water.

I had a customer who insisted on using it. It cost about $45-$48 a gallon . I don't know if his car ran cooler or not. His car never ran hot in the first place.

A friend of mine ran it in his snowmobile and kept having issue with it her heating / engine problems, the shop that went threw the motor the 2nd & 3rd time told him not to use it. He finally did after the third rebuild in 14 months and never had an issue again .
Was it an issue or just a bad luck with his motor
