‘70 TA alternator install
I picked up an rebuilt open-faced alternator over the summer and finally got around to trying to install it this weekend. Granted, my 400 RA3 engine is out for a stroker build and am currently running a ‘69 428, but it has all the correct brackets from my ‘70. When I first tried to install it, the bolt ‘ears’ were 180 degrees off, so I clocked it 180 degrees. Then I noticed that the rear bracket (attached to water neck and first manifold bolt) would not line up with the threaded hole in the back. I clocked it another 90 degrees, but now the plug is on the side, not the top, and I don’t think it’s correct.
Interestingly, the ‘70 Firebird Supplement has a drawing of the alternating that looks just like mine, but I don’t see how to attach the rear bolt with the plug on top of alternator. Here is the shot of the rear of the alternator (one on left is open-faced) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Clock the rear up to 12 O'clock so connector is up top.
This is a 70...

Agree with Telly, you have a 69 rear case. The bolt hole on a 70 rear case is in the same location as the one on the right. Also, the one on the right looks to be clocked correctly.

1970 back
You got the 69 version. Remember 69 trans am alternator is expensive and I imagine so are the backs. You can sell yours, use it, trade ect. I have a 902 with the 71 style back with correct mounting bolt is another option for you

More pics that can help
These are the 70 style only difference I see is the mounting hole is located at 3 o'clock vs 6 o'clock. I learned this stuff hunting down a mystery 1100904 that probably never existed and decided to build 1.

Here is some pics of an original 69 open face pontiac trans am alternator. This will probably help you I hope.
