accessory drive gaskets
I remember someone making Teflon gaskets so they could adjust belt and not destroy the gasket.
Any leads on this?

That has to have been well over 15 years ago,
and like the Cam House Gaskets, IMO didn't work well. They were too thick and soft and when torqued down would squish/spread out causing more leaks than OE ever did. I still have one of the Cam House Gaskets it was a great "Idea" just didn't work for me, and continue to use the OE gaskets with little to no issues. Thankfully! I Recommend Copper Spray on the "Stationary" side and a very light coat of lube on the "Slide" side. I just had to adjust my belt and my housing hasn't been touched in years. Made the changes needed with no issues.

Not so good of luck with the 68 motor I just did this on.
As far as i know its never been apart. I too use coppercoat but a gasket thats 56 yrs old doesnt stand a chance. I still have several NOS gasket sets but even those have their limits. If I was to make some with my CAMM-1 what material should I use? thinking just a little thicker than factory paper

IMO Thicker isn't better in this case.
Since it's made to slide/adjust by design the thin rigid gaskets seem to work best. If your gaskets are brittle toss them, New are avail.

Im pretty sure that most of the gaskets out there are old.
Got some Fel Pros coming,will be curious to see if they have a born on date.

Back in the day, once I had the belt tension set, I could slide the belt on and off the pulley with the engine cold, to avoid the headache of messing with the housing gasket. worked well for many years for me.

You were lucky thats not enough tension on belt I have never touched the tension on this 68 motor that Ive had almost 50 yrs and it wouldnt budge while cold.

It took a bit of effort, I could only do it when cold. With a warm engine it was not doable so i figured it was just about right. I had some head work done so it was painless to not have to mess with the acc drive.

Which side do you use the copper coat on - block or accessory housing?

Duh. I forgot about the guide pins on the accessory housing. The main gasket has to be adhered to it so it can slide.
If it was glued to the block would not work. The last time I replaced the gaskets I think I used copper coat as recommended. But I remember some suggestion to use Pam on the sliding side. I don’t recall if I used a little grease or it went on dry. And thank you for providing accurate information and helpful advice. Last edited by 66sprint; 03-06-2024 at 08:59 AM. |

Interesting that Ive got a NOS FelPro gasket
#VS30105A Inside was only a cam cover gasket,no accessory housing gaskets and box was half size with the long gasket folded in half(this makes me nervous.) Only one I could get to today.
