This was an issue with my 71 but may also exist with 1968's and 69's.

Ran into an issue this morning with the 71. A rain squall came up fast, the wiper was engaged: it seemed to struggle initally to come up but only went up 20° and stopped dead. Would not retract or function further.

Once I returned home I examined it. The 15 amp fuse was blown and replaced. Power was applied and the wiper functioned correctly (it uses a delay motor) but when shut off it only went down most of the way. I noted that the wiper blade was contacting the bottom edge of the hood. I know most GM A's the hood kinda sits high in the back if the hinges are worn. These hinges are rebuilt and when closing the hood I push back then down to help it along.

The wiper blades are bought from a local store here; NorAuto. But as you can see they sit considerable higher than the factory pieces. I will try tomorrow to remove some of the main 'arch" from these then find out if it is enough to clear the lower edge of the hood.



If not, I will need to order OEM style replacements from Ames as the are far lower in profile. Other than cost, the only issue to me with them is possible squeegee efficiency vs. the replacement units on the Lemans now.

I would buy the repro's you pictured. Another way to resolve it is removing the wiper arms and repositioning them so the park position puts the wiper blades above the point where they get stuck - a keen eye will notice they are positioned incorrectly.

I updated in the 70-72 section: I simply bent the wiper main frame to fit, gaining a 1/4 inch lower clearance.

I weighed the thought of the stock pieces, but refills are expensive and hard to get in the States; impossible here.

They are rare but non-park wiper setups do just that.
