I finally saw my first '04 GTO on the road yesterday. It was a red one and that was on the freeway in Houston. I saw it merging into my lane coming off the feeder road, and I must admit, it was bland looking.

"bland" Good description. I find they look similar to a Cavalier. Thats what you want in a 30+K auto.

Humbler, come back to earth dude, the #'s say it all...not many people like this car... ....at least not enough to buy it...
I don't car if it's the performance, the lack of style, the stolen name or the price, this car is definately a failure.
If you cannot see that, then you truly are blnd, or thick headed, hard to tell...hell, maybe both....

Oh you know what now that you've said it for the 10th time I agree with you...NOT! We'll see what the final numbers for 04 are.
Thanks for the insult.

Bland is exactly what I wanted. Flashy is WAAAAY overrated, especially if you actually drive the thing. My silver GTO seems to be invisible to police during my weekly 400 mile roundtrip to work and back, which is a BIG change compared with the much better looking '01 Formula the GTO replaced. Not only can I drive through Wauchula, Eagle Lake, Ft Meade etc. at 0200 (which apparently is "probable cause" for a traffic stop in and of itself) and not get pulled over, the cops don't even look at it!
The more I drive the new GTO, the better it looks!
I would still prefer that they used the GTO name for a more retro LOOKING car, but performance wise, the new one earns the name in spades. I think the 2004 version Holden would have made the perfect Grand Am or Grand Prix.

Absolutely the most intelligent response I've read in this section. Enjoy your car!

Give it up. No one cares about your opinion. You sound like a broken record.

Tripower455, I'm with you. When I heard that the new GTO would have rear drive, IRS, and LS1 power, all in a smallish package, it did'nt matter what it looked like, I was going to buy one. My silver '04 is the perfect daily driver, no one-I mean no one-notices this car. I am enjoying this car more than I thought I would, and the seats are so comfortable. I also have a supercharged Viper, so being able to drive under the radar is a much appreciated experience.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I WILL ONLY HAVE SILVER... WITH NO "GTO" STICKERS OR "SPOILER".
I must have the red interior though... Just to prove I'm not a total dork!

Love to lose the spoiler myself but can't. I probably would have silver and red but had to go red/red for the 70 match.

Absolutely. I realy struggled to choose between the red one and the silver, since the red looks so much better. But I have a pretty extensive drive (185 miles each way) to/from work, with lot's of bored state and local constabulatory types looking for something to do. My old car was a white '01 Formula, and it was a little too aggressive looking, and consequently, I was pulled over on a fairly regular basis, usually for little or no reason (tag light, passing slow old people on 2 lanes IN a passing zone, which worked when I went to change it, minor speeding like 6 over in the middle of nowhere etc.). I figure I bought at least 5 MPH with the sort of bland looking, silver GTO, compared with a red one.
I would have liked to have a red one to match my '66, but I have to drive this thing too much.
The wing is coming off mine next month, when I have vacation and I can leave the lid at the body shop for a few days. The car looks enough like a ricer without it, imho. I might even just buy another lid for it ($300 shipped from GMPartsdirect.com) and have the holes filled and painted.

And probably what I will do at lease end if I end up buying the car and don't trade up for another. You know mostly because of the view out the back, that wing obstructs what appears to be a significant amount of the rear window.
NikiV is there a great difference out the rear without the wing? It would seem so.
I would also definately buy another deck lid in case you ever decide to sell it.
