The flex plate from the 69 400 engine does not line up to the 74 400 engine. Is that correct?
Who handles flex plates? Doesn't look like Summit has Pontiac. I measured the ID (from the flywheel side, rear of engine) of the crank shaft and it is 2 1/2 inches. |

The 69 flex plate will work no problem. The holes are not symetrical. This will prevent the plate from being installed backwards. Rotate the flex plate until the holes line up. If it still does not line up, flip it over and try again. If you need a replacement, Kaufman Performance has them.

You say it 'does not line up'.
Do you mean the register size (hole in the center) doesn't match up to your crank? Or do you mean the bolt pattern? Your '74 engine may have a '76 or later crank in it with a smaller 2.490" register, the earlier cranks had the 2.750" register.

I had this same exact post a couple weeks ago lol.. same problem. Isn't it nice to see it line up after you figured it wouldn't work lol..

The easiest way to line it up.
Most aftermarket and some factory flexplates have a small dimple on the face. Line it up with the extra undrilled hole on the crank register.
