Asked this in electrical but thought one of you might know. My gas gauge on my 72 Lemans that always worked well went to full and stayed there . The tank's about half full. Any ideas?

Yes, Bill.
Locate the sending unit wire connection, I believe it's inside the trunk. With the igntion in the "run" postion, ground the wire - it should go way past full. Disconnect the ground but DO NOT reconnect the wire to the harness - it should go past empty. If these test are OK, your problem is within the sender. If not, then you need to trace your wiring and check or replace the guage itself. Good luck!

My 72 lemans GT had the same problem. I located the wire on top of the back of the fuel tank. It is easily accessable by lying on your back under the fuel tank. I found the wire had come off the connector, that connects to the fuel tank. I cleaned it up and rewired it. Works great now.

Found the wire coming from sender. It goes about a foot and then stops. (It was splaced and came apart). I can't find the other end. Can anyone tell me where the wire goes from exterior into the interior so I have a better idea where to look?

Check along the rear cross member and inside the trunk under the latch. I'll look to see if I have any wire info if I do I will post it.

Thanks for posting that image from the service manual lethal-428-lemans. My gas gauge never goes past 1/4 full (but it will go down normally from there). Now I have a clue how to check the problem.
