My (former) engine guy screwed up and did not elongate my pushrod holes when he installed my Harland Sharp 1.65 Roller rockers. The result was bent pushrods and broken springs. He then replaced the springs and pushrods and (again) neglected to realize that the pushrod holes must be enlongated with these rocker arms. (he said he could not get rid of the valvetrain chatter. Gee.. I wonder why!!!) Of course, I did my own research after all of this and instead of milling the heads (taking it back to him) I decided to swap for 1.5 ratio Harland Sharps myself. My question is: Do I need to change any parts besides just the rocker arms? Of course I do need to check for bent pushrods as I did drive it home from the shop around 25 miles. Any tips, pointers, cautions would be greatly appreciated. Lesson learned: Don't assume your engine builder knows it all because he only thinks he does.
Thanks for your time! Pete

Just make sure that you have the stock length pushrods, as he may have gone +.100" when he performed the rocker swap.

To give your guy a little break, I knew they had to be clearanced, thought I had ground enough but had not about 3/4" in on my street 400 with 6x-4s. Some were better than others. I also ran stamped 1.65s on another set of 6X-8s and they never rubbed so go figure.
In all of my mockups the pushrods length has been the same for 1.65 vs 1.5 HSs.Not always teh same with different brands though. My Norris are the same as HS. Part of the valve spring problem may have been coil bind also. The 1.65s are often 1.7-1.72 when measured actual valve lift. You might replace the netire set of valve springs if you had some breakage to be safe.Check teh installed height as soem Pontiacs have pretty short one that you are OK with the lift. Same with retainer to valve seal.Stock retainers can come close with lifts in the low .500.
