I know this isnt directly pontiac related, but I know many of us here use diesel powered GM trucks to tow cars and such.

I just bought a 6.5 turbo diesel GMC. I didnt know much about the quirks and what not so I checked the web and found the DIESELPAGE.COM. I was reluctant to have to pay $30 ( if my memory is correct ) for a 1 year memebership. Well against my better judgement I became a member. I met a few good people there. But noticed constant attacks against anyone that wouldnt use a certain advertising vendors products. The reponses where usually " vendor "a" 's products are way better and the other guys is just junk " with no proof to why it may or may not be junk. "vendor "a" stands behind his products and is a great guy " great guy , well if you buy his products maybe , stands behind his products well the other vendors offered full refunds if thier part didnt fix the problem, vendor "a" would not.

After a few posts of questions, I was noticed to be a vendor, though I didnt do any diesel related services and I wasnt advertising anything other then that I had made a few of my own parts for my truck myself. I was asked to advertise and pay $1000+ and pay the membership, inorder to make it fair that vendors pay to advertise and I should too since I was a vendor. I looked over the plan they had and made a post on the bbs to see if people thought there would be a interest in what I do. The reponse was virtually nothing. Which I understand since how many diesel truck shows or national drag races do you see every weekend. How many times do you pass a parking lot full of diesel trucks with thier hoods popped and trophies being handed out. After that post, my profile was banned, I couldnt make any changes to it or get into areas which I paid to get into. Then after I spoke up about some constant attacks on others and having talked to a few locals on the board about how they where disgusted with the sites abusive nature, I posted that I thought there was a problem. Bingo , in the can I went. The day I made the post , I have 20+ phone calls complimenting me for standing up and saying something. The next day I had quite a few more. I never realized how many people where ticked off about this problem. Within hours , I was banned, my membership cancelled and my money NOT refunded, even though I had close to 6 months left that I had PAID for. I find it hard to believe that I had to PAY for information, PAY to be told I must PAY more if I wanted to stay and PAY to be read advertisments, PAY to be told what and when to say it, PAY to be scolded and eventually banned for freedom of speach.

What I think really pushed my post over the edge, is I made mention and linked to PY board to show how good everything is here , and that its FREE.

I know not everyone is going to get along, but to PAY to not get along with others well.....

After I did some more research, I found a few other websites, that had the same problem with this particular DIESELPAGE.COM. And found even more people that had been banned, becuase they spoke up for themselves or others, or had views that where different then vendor "a"'s. I also found out that there where a few people on the board masquerading to be others so that they could promote vendor "a"'s parts or slam others that didnt agree with him under a false name. Not very good business practice. The net is large, word gets around and soon this small 100-150 person site will dwindle to nothing I am sure.

So if you need diesel information on the 6.2 and 6.5 or duramax , be very careful about paying for it from this guy....

Well if nothing else has happened, at least you have a greater appreciation for what our host has built w/ these boards. I know alot of Pontiac dealers also carry the GMC truck line, so your advice will probably help more of us Pontiac/GMC owners than you think. irgoatmike

I ll also add that I found a good place for information, similiar to what we have here for diesels, called thedieselplace.com.

And also wanted to say that PY guys have done a great job with this site and how its setup/works.

I used to belong to DIESELPAGE.COM also, but after 1 year I dropped it. Found a much better site for Duramax info: DIESELPLACE.COM. It was started by some former member of PAGE.COM who were also tired of the one sided opinions on that site.

While my truck does not have a diesel motor, (2500HD 6.0) I have a problem with cold starts that my dealer and a independant mechanic still can't figure out. The chevy truck site I found was full of the biggest bunch of whiners I have ever heard of. It just amazed me the differance between the people on this site and that one. You folks love to help, they love to bitch about the problems rather than find a solition to them. There were like 85 hits on my question and not one reply.
You guys are great.

Dan

Gee, those dieslepage people sound like a bunch of a$$holes to me, what a bummer.

Yup, I like that squirrels quote too, isn't it a smokey yunick-ism ?
