I'm in the process of having my car repainted. It's an original ATOLL BLUE car. My concern is that the Paint Code 28 is not enough since I see Olds and Chevy's with the same paint codes and they look so much different that the Atoll Blue's I see.
Is it the primer shade? What gives? Does anyone have the definitive Atoll Blue pictures they could share? Any help with pics and/or information would be welcomed. Thanks Phil |

All you have to tell them in 1970 Pontiac, 28 "E", Atol Blue.
That will uniquely identify your paint. No worries.

Do a search on this section and you will find several posts on Atoll Blue. Personally, I have seen several others besides mine, and I feel mine is very close to correct.

For what I know, all GM products, in '70, using code 28 is the same paint color, just uses a different name. Coming from the Fisher Body plants, the procedure for painting would be the same. Except, there were different paint suppliers, which might explain the slight hue differences.

Hi NORTON:
The first post you liked me to has an Atoll Blue car picture taken by HELD FOR RANSOM and it is the perfect ATOLL BLUE! Looks much different than the Atoll Blue car posted here (which looks too dark) or is it my eyes? I want that color that HELD FOR RANSOM took the picture of! We'll see. Keep your tips coming. I wonder what primer Pontiac used? Obviously that makes a big difference. |

yes, we all agree to disagree...the car above owned by pontiacmark is the dark blue i like...but i think atoll changes color in the sun to shade..but if u look at that color chart in my first post...it is very dark...so who knows,...u be the judge!

I've got find some original advertisements or literature that shows the Atoll Blue color other than those miniscule paint chips. Although I like the dark color above I really believe the pictures on the website that's linked to above show the real color. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, that is the same matching color to the model from GMP that's always for sale! Maybe I'll buy one of those! Anyone know of any original literature (pictures) showing an Atoll Blue car (GTO, BONNIE or CAT?) Considering it was the most common color (I believe or at least one of them) one would think that there would be at least some original literature with that color? No? |

Mine does look lighter in the sun. Here's another picture I have here at work. It looks like I lost my hosting for the other site temporarily. I have the GMP model and it is very close to that color.

The primer used is a red oxide color. Although, I don't think they used that color on the front end or rear valance, just the body and doors (I'll have to look at the trunk lid).

You guys are awesome.
I'm gonna have some of the front and rear valence painted with some different primers. I'm convinced that primer is what makes the difference. I love that pic that RANSOM took. I never thought of red primer! |

i talked to body guys about this, they said that any decent painter covers the primer so that primer has a minimal effect, not like the one you are hoping is responsible for the dark color.

May I add two cents? Is the car a GTO or a Judge? I feel the Judge stripes fool the eye into thinking it's a slightly different color. I've aways felt Atoll Blue appears to have a little more green when equipped with the stripes.
