"You don't really think Bruce Fulper would use an Eagle crank?"
I think he'd do what he had to to hook more customers. Maybe not an Eagle crank, could be a custom billet for all we know. "Supposedly only about 9.5 to 1. with aluminum heads that might work." Thats a big "might". "LS1 Chevy is close in Bore and Stroke and some are probably at that horsepower level." The LS1 makes that much power and torque? Which dyno was that pull made? Not even close. While the LS1 is a remarkable engine, its smaller and makes 320 HP at the flywheel, maybe slightly more. Not 539. "The strange thing to me is that he picked up more hosepower with the nitrous than the rating for the pills. Most people I know seem to actually pick up a little less than the rated amount. That is a 150 shot usually only seems to give about 130 at the rear wheels." Its really not strange. There are lots of examples of where a 150 shot will give you more than 150 HP. It all depends on how the motor is set up. "I can think of no reason why a 350 Pontiac cannot equal any other engine of equivalent bore and stroke with equivalent heads, airflow, cam, and other parts. The trick is "EQUIVALENT"." The problem is, there is no other 350 with the equivalent bore and stroke. Other people have tried to make big power with the 350P, this is npot the first time, by a long stretch. Are we to believe that all of a sudden, just like that, the 350P likes all these big dollar race mods? I'm not buying. Here's why: Lets take a look at a few things. We'll start at the top and work our way down. Carb: I have never seen an 850 CFM carb make more power on a motor that small that peaks out at 6500. 365 CI with a max power output at 6500 RPM? Intake: HEAVILY modified. No doubts here, as the heads were raised ".270" on the intake roof. Intake has to follow suit. In fact, the article hinted that the engine liked the Victor even more! Which brings us to my next point. Heads: Aside from being raised .270 on the intake roof, which I'll get back to in a minute, look at how heavily the heads were ported. They had to modify the rocker arm bolts and the valve cover bolts so they wouldn't protrude into the air passages. Have you ever know a motor that maxes out at 6500 and displaces 365 ci to use that much air? As far as the raising of the intake roof, same deal. That mod is usually reserved for high revving or big cubic inch motors. Why did the 350 "like" it, when we all know that some 455's don't use that much air? Hmmmmmmmmm All these factors, plus the 87 octane thing, lead me to believe that there are more cubic inches than meets the eye to that motor. I could see if it was a 12:1 motor that revved to 7200, with all that stuff done to it, but something is rotten in the state of Denmark, ladies and gentlemen. That is my opinion on the subject. Hey all.
My 69 bird came with the origional 350 in it. I gotta admit, the car ran really well with that motor. In some ways it out performs my 428. So seeing the Car Craft article for a 670 hp 350 on N.O.S. is very beleiveable. I think some of you may have missed the real intent of the article. They state right at the beginning that the bigger Pontiac motors are getting harder to come by. I have a tendency to agree, since it took me almost a year to find a 428 I could afford. For Me, the real purpose of the article was to enliven interest in the less popular, and more affordable motor. Granted the price seems outrageous, Heck I can't even begin to dream for a set of those heads. But for the average scmoo, who doesn't know any thing about Poncho's (like me a year ago) This article has the potential to spark interest in a person who has never considered Pontiac as a future street car project.

Hmm
Rereading my reply, looks like I made a typo and entered 670 hp. No biggie, but I still think We should look at Any positive exposure for Pontiac, as a good thing.

I guess that as long as I'm sticking my neck out there for all of you to hang me by.
There's a very good probability that my next project wont be a Pontiac. EVEN THOUGH I REFUSE TO GET RID OF MY BIRD!!! But my Dad recently bought a couple of 40's era Chevrolet Sedan deliveries. He wants me to chop the top on 1 for him, and then give me the other one. So my next personal project just might be a chopped, channelled, sectioned STREET ROD The only real regret is that I gave away my origional 350 Poncho motor, otherwise I might have used it for my sedan

If anybody does not believe that is a Pontiac made 3.75 inch stroke crank I will tell them flat out they are full of ****. Some people like to run their mouth off when they don't have a clue on what they are talking about. All anybody has to do to know it's a Pontiac crank is to look at the picture in Car Craft to know it's not a Chinese crankshaft or a custom billet crank.

We know it's not a billet. Brucie doesn't have that kind of capital to work with.

Don't be surprised if the whole lot of you can't post tomorrow.
I thought I made it pretty clear about Tech forums remaining just that....
