Nobody in my area does headliner installations for my 67 GTO. I just got a new one from PYP and wonder if someone can explain how to put it in, or tell me where I can get instructions, IF I decide to try it myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Remove all the trim around the headliner. Remove one rod at a time BUT mark the holes that rod came out of with a white out pen. Keep rods in proper order again marking each hole. Yoy may find cardboard on the sides with which to roll up the headliner to stuff it into the slit on the sides use that. Pick a warm day. After reassembly leave the car outside with windows rolled up the heat will tighten up and almost iron out the wrinkles. Spray glue from Home depot or auto parts stores works good on the back side panels. Hope this helps. 2 to 4 hours on a warm day.

A good trick I picked up is to use a whole bunch of those little black clamp from an office supply store to hold it down before you start glueing. Get it all squared and tight while using just the clamps , then glue half a section at a time. The adhesive is like contact cement and once you make contact its a bitch to adjust after

I picked a color for each rod and hole group. then I took a camera ,zoomed in and shot the rod at the hole location. Its been five years since I started the Resto. and now all I have to do is open the albumn and put the new set back where they came out.

There are no directions with the headliner. What type of adhesive is used and what part of the headliner is glued? Is the white insulation stuff that came with my order for above the headliner? Start in the front or back? Anyone have additional details? NEED HELP!

Really Brave:

I swapped some 1972 headliner Rods into the 68GTO project, based on relative condition. 1972 4-door rods are different length (duh)

That means I had to marker the 1/4"-5/16th hole position, for that nice sprung fit.

67gtocharlie, I recently put a new headliner in my 64. The white material is the insulation between the roof and the headliner and should glue to the roof, between the braces. I used spray on adhesive and sprayed both the roof and material, then put it in place. Make sure you place it where you want it the first time as it is a bitch to reposition.

I started in the center when I installed the headliner, putting in the bows first, stretching and aligning before applying any glue. I then glued over the rear and front window, starting at the center and working out.

I then started glueing the edges over the doors starting at the front of the car and working towards the rear. I then glued the corners at the top of the windshield and under the panels(if you have them) at the rear. The glue I used for this was a contact cement made by Locktite. It comes in a brownish bottle with a cap with the brush attatched. It my take a while since the brush is small but it worked out really well and held tight, I didn't even use any clamps anywhere while installing.

Advice for the day: If you have a lot of tension and you get a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: "Take two aspirin," and "Keep away from children."

I did mine the same as above but used the 3M heavy spray adhesive. I used a acid brush to apply after spraying into a heavy plastic cup. I used foam on the upper part of the ceiling lip to hold the headliner in place during drying.

everyone gave you great advice and you won't go wrong if you what all these friends have told you. when i did my 64 lemans i had the help of a brother-in-law that did 35 years at G.M. soft trim. we did it just like these guys are telling you. the only thing we did different was to brush on all the glue, we didn't use any spray. use the best 3M contact glue you can buy. good luck and have fun

That's the type of information I knew all you guys would come through with! I'm gaining confidence, and lacking finding someone that does these, I'll give it a try. All I can do is mess it up and start over. Thanks again.
