Since it is very hard to find a correct year carb for a 67 gto. I`m would like some knowledge on what is the best replacement for that year for cruising not into drag racing here ? The rochester style number is 7027263 and i can not find that carb. Would amy modifcations be needed to the breather ? :

For the closest in appearance I would go with a '68, '69 or '70 Pontiac carb. If you are needing a 7027263 then You must have a 4spd car. Look for a 7028263, 7028265, 7029263, 7040263 or 7040267. Those should be the easiest to find. Check ebay from time to time. I usually see a few every week.

Yes that would be the correct carb for your car unless it is an A.I.R car with California emissions. So instead of the ones I listed above you'll want to look for a 7028262, 7029262, 7029268, 7040264 and 7040268. The only visable difference on the Automatic carbs is that it has an extra vacuum port on the front/right side of the carburetor.

They are pretty close but don't think they are exact. I have a 7027262 on my '67 and a 7029268 waiting to be rebuilt. I'll take a look this evening and see how they match up.

The throttle linkage on my '67 and '69 carbs are the same.

I had the same delima on my 67 YS 400 auto
with a/c. I had run a 1975 Q-jet for years on it not knowing that the vacuum was manifold and not port, basically 180 degrees out of phase for the car!! Also, the mid 70's Q-jets have different shaped base plates and do NOT cover the intake properly.

So.. I ended up going with an Edelbrock #1910 electric choke Q-jet for 1966-73 Pontiacs, with the Edelbrock Performer intake #2156 to accomodate the electric choke. Dont let the 850cm rating of the carb scare you, it runs like a dream out of the box. Bolt on performance and drivablitly has been WONDERFUL!! I could not be happier for my daily driver, and you dont have to worry about rebuilding a carb that is likely older than you or someone you love! Would HIGHLY recommend it.
