I am ready to put this 462 into my Can Am, However!?!?!.
My Can Am is a 1-legger, the orignal owner did not opted for the safety-track rear-end. I was looking at a new chunk and I came across the Powertrax unit. It is appealing because I can put it in myself and not have to pay to have a rear end set-up. Have any of you used this unit?

I've used the power-trax unit in a '96 Dodge Dakota with a warmed over 318, and my '67 LeMans with 350 and 400. The dodge had about 275 HP, and worked great. The 8.2" R/E in my '67 worked well with powertrax and the P-350. But when I stepped up to the hot 400, I had problems. The axle shafts twisted and the carrier deformed a bit. I think the power trax units are good for about 400-450 HP. More than that and the factory carrier and axles start to go. The only thing that kinda annoyed me was the clicking and popping around sharp turns. Otherwise it worked fine, until the factory parts gave up.

Take this as me just passing information along because I have no first hand experience.I have a friend that has a rearend/manualtrans shop and thats all he does, when I asked him about those units he laughed and showed me a box that had several of them broken and in pieces. He showed me one out of a toyota 4x4 with stock drivetrain and 30x10.50x15 tires and it was destroyed, they (powertrax) waranted only one customers out of several and his broke a second time.Again I havent used one but this is straight from him.

I have a powertrax unit in my 12 bolt chevy rear end and I do not like it at all. I do not think it will stand up to much horsepower. I guess my motor was making about 430 hp and I was constantly breaking the ears off the couplers. I am going to go to a spool and upgrade my rearend. I do not drive this car much on the street so I will be ok with the spool.

I've got one in my 65 GTO street/ strip car.I've got about 30k street miles on it and 100's of strip passes. The car runs 12.40's, weighs 3500lbs.So far I've had zero problems with the locker, I'm using a '72 pontiac 10 bolt housing with a '68 carrier and Moser axels. The locker will not cause the axels to twist, I twisted 2 axels with the original cone type unit.It does make a clunky noise when making sharpe turns, but that's what lockers do.The real plus is that on the track the axels are locked together like a spool, don't have to worry about 1 side spinning more than the other, especially in the water box.

KEv's 66 GTO had one. He posts here, so maybe he'll chime in.

i was in the same boat as you a year ago and looked at the powertrax unit, eaton, and auburn gear. the guys at jegs recommended the auburn gear unit. i found a killer deal on a "pro unit" by A/G so i went with it. no troubles what so ever. i installed it in my garage with no problems. are you going to replace the ring and pinion also? i didn't. just be sure to check the backlash before you take it apart and get it back within +/- .001" of what it originally was if you retain the stock ring and pinion. get the shim pack from summit or jegs and take your time.
