Default Rear end gears/codes

Are the rear end codes the same for all GM cars, or at least the A-bodys? Or do they change from beand to brand? I have been able to find a list of codes from chevelles but not for any pontiacs. Also, would you guys think that a 2 speed equipped car would have a lower rear end ratio from the factory than say a 3 speed auto caR?
thanks,
matt
