Steve, just because the UAW went on strike does not mean their suppliers went on strike. It also does not mean it is not a SR part. If I thought for one second this was a restamp, I would not have mentioned I had it. Will you take Lloyds word on it if not mine? It is in Lloyds possession right now and he has seen it up close and personnal. And no, he has not bought it.

I believe it might be a good idea for one of the more knowledgable dudes to chime in on this one, 'cause to ME it appears that there's NO WAY this distributor is a restamp.

Yes, the "1112" appears to be a deeper stamping than the "126". But the font is the same and the machining marks on the housing are undisturbed. So . . . my theory, which Chris and I discussed while he was at my shop, is that at least on a SR distributor the first four PN characters were "pre-stamped" and the final three characters - which would determine the exact application - were stamped when the piece was assembled.

Secondly, Chris is a stand up guy and no way he's trying to sell a re-stamped part. Besides all that, I doubt anyone was restamping '72 distributors 24 years ago when Chris removed it from an engine.

Sorry, I should have snapped some pics yesterday, but I forgot to and it's still at the shop. I'll try to snap some pics on Monday and post them here.

I've seen a lot of the RA dist that have 2 different style fonts from the intial 1112 to the application #'s backing up the idea that they stamped them at different times.
I think we have to remember there are no absolutes when it comes to how these cars & parts were built. They were made by people working on assembly lines & sometimes different people did things differently. A lot of things went through the auto makers quality control back then, keep in mind they were making cars....keep that production line cranking!


To post a picture look for the "manage attachments" button in the additional options below the reply to thread section, click it, then another box will pop up, click on "browse" & select the picture you want from the source (pictures, your camera, etc). Once selected click on "upload", this may take some time depending on your conection speed. When finished uploading close the attachment box & then click the "submit message" button. There is a size limit to pics & if it's too large you'll have to reduce it first.

Here is the one I just bought off of ebay. It is dated 1J9 (October 9, 1971). All of the numbers look to be in line with each other. Interestingly, it has the remnants of the same purple paint daub on the side, just like Chris's, -maybe this was an assmebly line ID for the 2126 model so they could grab it quickly??? My car is a 12A build car and I would think the 2 month window would be ok for the car. I see that your 03D car had a 1L12 (Dec, 12 1971) built distributor. So I guess my two month gap is OK since O3D would be a 3 month gap between the distributor's build date and the car's build date, assuming that's the original distributor from your car.

Thanks, There are an expensive commodity, but at least I only need to buy it once. I still need to send it out to be refurbished and set up on a distributor machine so the curve is right. Anyone recommend a distributor expert in the NJ or PA area? I was thinking about sendng it to Jerry McNeish the Camaro Guru, who offers the service for $125.
