I have done a search of splattering the trunk on a 66 GTO and would like to make sure I am correct before we splatter the trunk tomorrow.
1) I am going to use the GM splatter paint and spray clear over the top to seal it. 2) Coverage area in the trunk is the entire floor up to the seat divider, wheel wells, panels between the wheel wells and the tail panel, the area up to the tail lights, leaving the latch and tension rod braces black. Is this correct?? This is the final step to complete this project and I would like to be correct. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Larry

I'm sure others can chime in with more ceartainty, but I had overspray on my tention rods and trunk latch, both body color and trunk spatter. I'm not sure at what point along the assembly line the trunks were done.
Although not in your post, I hope you won't mind some advice. When I did my trunk I went through 4 cans of aerosol spatter and could probably have used two more to get it really nice. In hindsight, I should have used a gray primer first, and I probably could have gotten away with 2-3 cans. I used less than 1/2 can of clear, even for two coats.

Thanks mwritter. I figure there will be some over spray to look "factory". We are not going to spray the underside of the shelf due to speakers and the same for the under side between the lid and rear panel. I got 6 cans of the GM splatter to be safe. The trunk has been sprayed once with a light coat of flat black. Thanks for your imput and FYI sorry for the multiple post.... damn internet.

another thing relating "correct" in this area is the plant the car was built at. if it's a calif car the paint sold these day's isn't even close to what remains of the oem paint in my 65.
it did / does have oversray in the areas you mentioned. the underside of the pkg tray was body color but not a heavy coating of it. the upright seat bracing in the trunk had /s overspray along the bottom but is 60% +/- gloss black. the primer will help the coverage when used as a base. mike
