I recently bought a 79 WS6 TA. I found 4 15x8 snowflake wheels for it. Did 225 70 r 15s come on this car originally? thanks

The stock 78-81 WS6 tire size was/is 225 70 x 15.

Pontiac/GM really did their homework on this one.

If your T/A is reasonably stock & you're not into doing a lot of "smokey burnouts",you won't find a better suited tire size to your car!

With this size,ride quality,handling,braking and appearance are ALL First Rate!

A 255 x 60 15 is pretty much the same height as the 225 x 70 15,but about an inch wider.
These would be a consideration if you are running over 300 HP & have traction issues.
The fronts will just touch the inner fender/swaybar in lock to lock,but it doesn't hurt anything. Just makes a strange noise.

I've run 225 x 70 15's on the front & 255 x 60 15 's on the back before & that works out real well,also.

BF. Goodrich Radial T/A's have that GOOD OEM look & are reasonably priced with great "street cruiser" performance

I found that the 255/60/15 would rub in the rear with any weight in the car and going over a dip. IMO I think the perfect tire is the 245/60/15, slightly shorter but better handling and looks.

I agree with you . On 15x8's, to me, it would be silly to use the narrow 225-70's. That may have been the best they could do in 79, but I think 245-60's are a much better choice all the way around nowadays. I have BFG radial TA's, which are very stable and handle great in that size.

Don't knock em' till you've tried them!

I've run 225/70, 245/60, & 255/60 & found the 225/70's the BEST all around.

With the shorter sidewall & wider tread,if the road is grooved or has semi ruts in it,those 245's will drag your front end all over the place.

If you need to go wider,the 255's work better than the 245's as they are a bit taller,and they look better,too.

When I ran the 245's,I had to lower the car an inch all the way around to get rid of that UGLY GAP between the top of the tire & the wheelhouse.

I agree with 2manyT/A's, I had 245/60R15's at the front too, not enough tire to fill the wheelwell.

I had 245/60/15's on my 79 T/A and they worked well for ride quality and street handling, even with the front sway bar removed for drag racing.

I have tried 225-70's. I've had them on several cars in the past and I have them on one of my other cars now, and I wish I had gotten 245-60's instead . Since the 225-70's are a little taller and narrower, they just don't feel as good.
255-60's are a bit too big and tall for this size car, in my opinion, especially on the front.
But each to his own. I understand that alot of guys like big tires for looks. But I prefer ones that are better suited for street driving.
Some of it depends on the brand of tire you use as well, since the same size in one tire can actually have different height and width as the same size in another brand, due to differences in construction.

I have had good luck with BFG 255/60 ON 15X7 Rally II's.

I agree that handling with the stock tires suffers compared to 245/60R15's. I had Coopers 255/70R15 on the back and 235/70R15 on the front before the I had the Goodyears - the wider tires made the car feel more stable at higher speeds (130 mph and higher).
The Goodyears deliver alot more grip and less roadnoise though. Ofcourse the meatier rear stabilizer (0.8" from a 1974) I installed helps alot in the corners also.
Though the Goodyear Eagles GA, leave rubberdust on the quarterpanels when I accelerate from 80 mph to 145 mph - funny huh?

I had 245/60R15(F) and 275/60R15(R) when I bought the car back in 1995, then switched over to 235/70R15(F) and 255/70R15, and now I decided to go for the stock look (so 225/70R15 all).
