Default 2 bolt to 4 bolt 455 main caps...billet?

Is there any realistic advantage to using the billet 4 bolt main caps for a 455? I'm assuming I can get away with just a standard cast set of caps.

Anyone want to sell a set?

P.S.

Why does the number 4 cap have to be machined and to what spec?

Depends on your hp and torque needs along with load. Bob weight, rpm.

What are your goals? More info. The #4 is machined oversize as are all aftermarket billet caps to get them into spec when finished. Not all blocks have the dowel pins and line bore exactly all the same over the course of 30 plus years of production. Then ya have block settlement, etc.

We've found the Program Engineering 4-bolt caps to be excellent. I would rather see those that factory caps from a different block.

No. 4 needs the thrust surface machined, as well as the align-bore.

You really don't NEED 4-bolt mains until you pass about 600 HP.
