What are the best resto books to put my 68 goat back together? I thought the best to buy first would be 68 Fisher Body Manual. Anyone know of any others that are good? Are there any that was a complete waste of money? Thanks

GM Service manual is a must, IMHO..Assembly Manual is a nice to have if you are adding options that require correct measurments on body panels, etc...I also thought Zazarine's GTO Resto guide was also a good reference book

I'm not too far into my project but so far the following books have been helpful:
"How to Resotre your Musclecar" by Donahue & Zazarine. Its about 15 years old but has been recently re-released with updates. Covers complete frame-off restorations. Although it highlights the resoration of a 1970 Dodge Charger I have found "Project Charger" by Larry Lyles entertaining and somewhat helpful. "101 GM Muscle Car Performance Projects" by Colin Date and Rich Burns is good for tackling smaller "week end" projects like carpet installs, steering column rebuilding, cam installs, etc. "How to Restore Your Collector Car" by Tom Brownell is another title I own that has separate chapters dedicated to different areas of restoration (i.e. - upholstery, body work, etc.) Hope this helps,

The book I've gotten the most milage out of as far as assembly info is the GTO Resto Guide. That's followed by the '69 Assembly Manual. The service manual has been handy, but not as much as I would have thought. If you are relatively new to cars or unfamiliar with a Pontiac and it's service procedures it might be more useful.
I might as well use the Fisher Body manual to level out a table or something. I don't think I've cracked it open more than once or twice. It might become more handy whenever I get around to doing body work.

Great thread! I am also looking for books right now, but I am having trouble finding the "69 service manual" that has been mentioned. PY has the "69 Fisher Body Manual", the "69 Shop Manual" and the "69 LeMans/GTO/GP Assembly Manual". What is the service manual that was mentioned? Anybody got a picture?
Thanks, LanceW |

The shop manual that PY sells is the same as the Service Manual. Green cover with the Pontiac arrow and a box wrench on the front. Mine is about wore out I've used it so much.
