I'm changing the intake on my 68 350 engine to a 69 cast iron stock intake. Looking at getting rid of my current holley for a Q-jet. A buddy just offered me the carb off a 77 T/A.
He bought a 77 T/A project car and is parting it out, any guess as to what came on a T/A in 77 for a carb and the $94 question,,,,,,, would a 77 carb -assuming it's a Qjet- work on a 69 cast intake? Not looking to build a race car just a decent driver. Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!! Howard

It came with a Q-jet...hopefully it was a Pontiac engine and not an Olds 403. A Pontiac Q-jet will bolt up fine, but you'll maybe want to consider converting it to an electric choke. You will probably have to work thru some issues with throttle linkage, and the vent stack may interfere with your air cleaner base, but these are relatively minor issues.
If it's an Olds 403 carb, you'll have an extra headache with the linkage and maybe vacuum ports. An Olds carb number will end in "240-249" and a Pontiac carb will end in "260-276"

I was able to peek at the engine, had 6X heads on it , pretty sure it's a pontiac, Thing is partly torn down with parts in the car and trunk. Haven't seen the carb yet, car is on a trailer both of which are buried in the snow. Can't open the doors more than 4-6 inches due to the fenders on the trailer preventing the doors from opening further. Hopefully I can look in the trunk soon to see if it's there.
From your description of potenial issues it doesn't sound too bad. Any other experiences anyones had with similar projects??? Thaks Howard

Hey Howard how you been? Let me know if you want to part with that holley your taking off. I have got to get rid of the edelbrock carb I'm currently running. Has a tendency to flood out while running. So if your looking to get rid of it let me know. thanks, Joe.

Howard,
More than likely that carb is an 800 as I built one for the same car last year. |

Joe, not doing too bad, getting tired of climbing a ladder to shovel the roof, but at least one more day of that today I've got to head to my dad's and shovel the garage off, can't have it collasping on my Pontiac!! I imagine you're in the same boat with the snow. We can work out some sort of deal on the holley, but you'll want to check it out first, it's kinda small only a 600 cfm model 4010. lets talk gimme a call when ever you like-452-5561. Carb is off right now due to my other mods in progress. I'm sure this carb could use some work, my car ran OK, but w/ a little hesitation off idle, wasn't sure if it was the carb or T2 intake.
Jeff, once again, good to talk to you the other night. With your experience would you foresee any problems using a stock 77 carb on a 68 engine? Keep in mind I'm only running a 350 not a 400. any pluses or minuses you can think of running a 800cfm on a 350? Thanks again for any advice you can offer. howard
