Tom Vaught Carb Work
I will be taking no future carb work from any member on the PY Board.
Do not ask or send me e-mails on this deal. I will be finishing Robert William's carb project and doing a job for SGT GTO and that will be it. My present schedule does not allow the "favors" that I used to provide to members to fix their carbs. I will not be posting on carb fixes either. Shaker 455 is doing a good job on Holley questions. Send your work to him. He is hungry and wants the work. He will build you a nice carb. One comment: When you are asking someone "to do a favor for you" you should understand that you are on THEIR schedule, NOT YOURS. I have fixed a lot of screwed up carbs that other companies and individuals messed with before they sent the crap to me to fix. Typically the price doubles (by other companies) when you "watch their work" "nag about delivery dates" or "made suggestions" In my case, when the person nagged, the carb went to the back of the group of carbs I was working on. The other people were not complaining about their carbs delivery dates, therefore they should be rewarded and their carbs moved ahead of the complainer's carb. I have followed this policy for the last 29 years. As a point of reference, Cliff Ruggle's customers wait a minimum of 6 months for a carb to be delivered. He does the job for a living and has a lot more time than I do to work on carbs. Maybe that is being "hardnosed" on the "back of the line" deal but I have rarely ever made any money on the jobs I have done because as I said I was helping people out. Tom V. __________________

I am sorry to hear this time as I for one have always found your posts to be very informative and have helped me tremendously with troubles I have had with my car. I hope when I get ready to build my turbo motor in a couple of years that I may be able to pick your brain for some info. I would gladly pay for some of that information as it will save me parts and headaches.
As for the carb work you have done I am sorry that people have taken advantage or your help as once again I would gladly pay the amount you request to get my carb done as I know it would be done right and would save me money in the long. The reason I say I would pay what you feel is fair is that you have been in the industry for a long time and know what the knowledge is worth and you are a fair man. Thanks again for all your help. Tom, that sounds like something my son's elementary school teacher would do to her class.....2 people talk and she cancels recess for the whole group.
You've given me suggestions on tech issues I've had in the past. And I appreciated it. Still do. BUT. Posting what you did sounds fairly childish. And no, I don't know what the situation is/was. The taking my toys and going home routine doesn't come off very well. You are better than that.

I second what 67 said. Thanks for your help in the past. You've been a great rescource for me to bounce off of. I get pissed when people ask me for favors then have the cajones to hurry me up. |

Tom, your a wealth of knowledge and have contributed much to the hobby and racing endeavors. I understand that one person can only do so much. Don't push your self so hard, slow down and you will live longer.

Hey, Tom could just ignore future requests and leave it at that, but from what I understand, he gets a large volume of contacts on a daily basis, via phone and e-mail. I think he's justified in publicly stating he will no longer take any contacts from PY members concerning carb questions/help. It's easier to do this than to tell everyone still contacting on an individual basis "no, I'm not doing that anymore". Less stressful too.

This thread got me to thinking about something.
All of the times Tom has bugged me about that pound of Norwalk ice cream that I owe him...I think I'll move him to the back of the list and take care of others I owe ice cream to, but haven't asked about it as much.

Got to agree with David on this. Your knowledge is highly prized on this or any other automotive forum, but you are not the only resource on this Forum that has been abused or not appreciated in what is basically a thankless volunteer task. Your prior posting of your leave, or inability to be reached, in multiple topics suggests that the Forum cannot function in your absence. Les
