Here is another great pic. Take a look. Slingshot, blown, injected, Pontiac powered and painted stock valve covers ( yeah!) !
I think this may be the now owned and ran by Paul Spotts. Anyone no more on this Pontiac?

couple photos from my local area, These are pics of a couple of Dave Flynn's rides (RIP Dave!) first one is a 60 Pontiac ran in K/SA in 1967, and the 66 GTO pic is from late 70's, BTW this 66 GTO is the same car now owned by PY member Jeff Verdi, except now it's Gold and pull monster wheelstands!

Its true, with both tires spinning most of the way down the track and the differenctial swapping power back and forth the car would go straight. With welded spiders car goes sideways like a car with posi in the snow or a spool car in the water box today.
Back then the tires and the throttle were the clutch. Driver controlled the slippage the way timed multiplate clutchs do today.

I've got a question for some of you guys who raced back in the 60's. If you had 65 GTO with the original engine, automatic tranny, running cheater slicks, but running an aluminum intake and 2x4's; what class would it run. It was a factory 3x2 car. Would it have run in the SS classes or something different? If the 3x2 setup were left on it should have run in C/SA. Anyone have any ideas?

In AHRA it would have been either B/S-A Formula 1 or C/S-A Formula 1. Formula 2 was for the tri-power and Formula 6 was for a 4-barrel. I don't think NHRA allowed non-standard carburetion in stock classes. My guess is that it would have run in B-Gas in NHRA. I saw a guy run a '64 4-spd without his front bumper and they put him in A-Gas.

Hadn't NHRA already started the Modified-Production classes by then? I remember running M/P in '67, but can't remember just when they first had it. A lot better "fit" than Gas classes which allowed a lot of engine setback, etc.

We started running B/MP in 1967, which allowed the larger tripower, ram air, and larger tires on our '65 GTO, but I don't know what year the MP classes started.

When I started racing in '64 they did not have those classes (MP). I don't know when they started, and since my car was stock I didn't really look into it.

Lynn--thought you would be chumping at the bit at this one. Also heres a pic of Pontiacs only WIN for SCCA TRANS AM ( 1972 at Mid Ohio ) - Milt Minter driving --HERB ADAMS was in charge--you know that old saying ( sometimes you gotta do it yourself ) . After this Herb had to get back to work at GM ( 455SD engine etc. ) .

Steve, those stock valve covers look chrome.

That rail certainly does look like the same style construction as Spotty's. Paul does know some of the history of his car, in fact I thought he had traced it back to the original owner. Maybe he can chime in with that info?

Nope, they are Pontiac silver blue metalic. Maybe time to have the yes checked?

There was a small, color picture of this car in HPP in the late eighties. It only showed the right side of the motor and part of the cowling. There was no caption or other info with that picture. Too bad.
