Well...actually it is calculated by how much time it takes you to cover the speed trap distance, it doesn't have anything to do with acceleration, but what I am saying is....
It is hard to understand how wasting time at in the first part of the track doesn't result in lost mph at the end of the track. I have even heard people say that spinning a little off the line actually causes the mph to jump up a little. I can't understand the physics behind it. |

gearbanger, I did some checking of the FAST numbers and as far as I know the 'Vette is the only one to run a 1.5X 60. There are several cars that are running 1.6's. The downside is that while these are street tires any of the cars running these kind of numbers are anything but street cars.
![]() My own '69 Lemans has managed a 1.90 60' on G-70 14's despite being overweight, underpowered and under geared. The plus side is that it was running exactly the same way setup I run on the street.

Goatless, I was just going from memory too. I thought Dudek and another mopar were in the 1.50s because they are so quick but I guess it is just low 1.60s. Still that is unbelievable!
I heard a couple of Youtube videos of FAST cars and I really don't think they enforce that "stock sounding" very strickly. They sounds quite a bit beefier that stock. I know what you are saying about them not being street cars though. It is impossible to define what a street car is, but I am talking more about pump gas, street radials, full exhaust, no loose suspensions that arent safe in curves, and can sit in traffic without getting hot. Kind of like the pump gas drags with real street tires on them

The only changes I personally made were to unload everything from the trunk (you practically live out of your car for five days ) air down the back tires, check the oil, and head for the staging lanes. No trailers, no slicks, no open headers, no race gas. Just like it goes down the highway, even the Simpson kiddie seat in back. The car ran it's best ever of 10.59 @ 124 on local gas station 92 octane, full length exhaust, front and rear sway bar, and front shocks set to the stiffer end of the range (pos. 9 of 12).Now I will admit that I was on a set of M/T drag radials, but how can you deny that as an every day street tire when I just completed 1500 miles of drive through four states (600 miles in the rain!!!). ![]() It's actually the only tire I own for the back of the car. Someday I'll try the legit radial (non DR) and see how scary it is!

My son and I drive our Catalina to the track, let air out of the rear tires, and thrash it for all it's worth. Then put air in the rear tires and drive it home.

Goatracer, that is really cool. I can not deny your street tires in that case!

My Lemans is just a very mild 455. Stock intake & Qjet, d-port heads, stock log manifolds, th400, 3.31 rear. The fanciest part in it is the hydraulic roller cam which I'm still dialing in. This past season I was running it advanced but I really don't need the bottom end with those little tires. For next season I'm going to see if running it straight up will pick up the top end. As it is now the car is a nice Sunday driver- put the top down, throw the kids in the back seat and go driving for hours.
![]() The last time I had it out it ran a 13.13 @ 104.5 on 93 octane just like I drive it on the street... with those little G-70 14's on it. I think with some more tuning it'll get in the 12's. Oh yeah, it weighs 4100 lbs! I'll let Jay tell you about his '74, but I will tell you it's a little more exotic than my car. He's got a LOT left in that car as he gets his new combo dialed in. He's run a best of 11.84 so far with it.

Well, here is what I ran before I killed it!
Factory 421 block and crank (4.128" x 4.00"), 11.4:1 cr, 6.625" Eagle rods, JE pistons, w/Butler steel 4-bolt caps. Comp Extreme energy solid street roller 248/254 @ .050" on a 108 lsa and .600" net. The heads are 62cc High ports that are in the 345 cfm neighborhood on a small bore, T&D 1.6 shaft rockers, and a Victor intake thats been welded, ported, and shot peened back to an stockish appearance with a Pro System Dominator on top. I ran 1-7/8" Doug's headers, a Dr. Gas X-pipe, and a full length exhaust system. The converter is an ATI 8" treemaster (3100 foot brake) with a 200-4R trans. 4.11 gears and an Eaton posi in a 12-bolt housing end it off. I run the origional stock front coil springs and sway bar with 12x shocks front and back. The rear suspension is the Dick Miller bolt on kit with a HRParts-N-stuff rear anti-sway bar. Tires at the time were M/T 295/65 drag radials at 17 psi (25 down the freeway). The heads and intake are surely the trickest part of the combo. The rest of the car is pretty basic, but works well together as a package. We did'nt dyno with old 248/254 cam, but the new UDHarold cam (263/269 @.050 and .650" net) produced 670 hp and 560 lbs. of torque down at Westech a few months ago. I feel that the old cam was in the 625-630 range. Did'nt get a chance to see how the new cam worked at the track before I wounded the shortblock. Now the High Ports and 263/269 cam are going to reside atop a 496" IAII shortblock at 10.8:1 cr. Should be interesting.

I have been curious as to which realy street radial gives the best traction. I have Nitto 555s on mine and I can get a 2.04-2.08 pretty regularly with a stickshift. I just wonder if there are better choices that I could get in 18". I have 295/45/18s but could go to 305 or something. I know of a elcamino that ran the way I do and he ran 11.88 with a 1.90 sixty foot. I think his tires were Sumitomo HTRZ's in a 315/17. I would love to do that.

Okay so here is the tally so far. I saw this on another post and I really liked it so here goes.
68Birdfreak 12.45@114 SilverJudge 12.49@? Gearbanger 12.56@114 Goatless 13.13@105 I can see this turning into something pretty cool ![]() I don't want anyone to get mad about not being included, but to keep a handle on the class we need to keep it to pump gas, street radials and full exhaust (pipes and mufflers) I know we could argue all day about what a street car is, but this is the big three for me. Anyone else want to get into the class? We need to name it. How about something like the "Streetfighter" class?

I'm for it! Everybody post your tire make and model and the size, your 60 ft time and we'll get some data! I'll put it in a spreadsheet and keep it updated.
