Heres a clip of Jim's Bird running a 12.47 @ 109 mph - the Quickest run at
this event ( 1987 ) - eventually he got it down to low 12's during the next couple of racing seasons . Stock 400 - exhaust manifolds etc. - Awesome .

One last trick he told me.Take one true leather belt and kerosene.Place the crank on a wooden support and start polishing. The trick is(I'm not sure maybe someone here knows)the direction to polish. As the metal journal has certain way the microscopic metal 'lays'.You want to laay this down not 'stand it up'.

Yes - some people just don't like being beat by a Pontiac -must be all that hype.
If you go back through Pontiacs Racing History ( ie. Dominating NASCAR in the early 60's )
the Pontiac V8 was truly a Winner .

I know Mino's Bird was quick and would have probably won anyway, but it looked like to me that the GS let off because he redlighted.

There were several but the Quickest was a Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 that ran a 13.13 @ 101.92 mph .
Fairly Quick but not enough to run down Jim's 12 sec. Runs .

Also there was one other Pontiac that went farther than the GS 455's
and that was Dan Jensen's 71 T-37 455HO running a best of 13.24 -he was one
of the Final four . Jim defeated a 440 6 Pack Road Runner and Dan could'nt get by a
Hemi Road Runner . The Final had the 400 RAM AIR II Firebird defeating the
Hemi Road Runner - Would'nt have that been Cool - a All Pontiac Final .
