I have some questions and pictures of the car I purchased last month. On the SD registry by vin this was the 12th car made and the first Bucaneer red car, any feedback on this? Second question, my block cast date show Nov 11 72 and a engine # 751974 but what I have seen on early cars were in 5 range not 7? Thrid, Pontiac dealership installed the roll bar see receipt and read my post about the history, I want to leave it what do you think? Fourth look at the repo window sticker, no fm, rear window defog or rear speaker, dealer installed?
Update on the car, I removed the engine and tore it down to inspect it, looks good the machine shop who last rebuilt in 75 Cope Bros. are going to inspect everything just to be sure. I purchased a NOS rear tailpanel and a trunk floor. What about repo 73 rear bumper, center spoiler and trunk lid junk or ok? Waiting on parts then off to the body shop. Just a comment, I love the smell of a unrestored GM muscle car that's kept in dry storage for many years, I now have three and they all smell pretty much the same, a 69 ram air iv judge, a 71 gs stage one vert, and now the sd car, I just sit in them and it's like going back in time, I graduated in 1973 and the smell brings back the memories, which can be very powerful, when you just sit in the car alone and take it in. I had a 67 GTO and my much of youth was experienced thru this car, my steady gal sitting on the console, drag racing buddies, cruzing, crazy burnouts, going to parties, 8 track music, drive in movies and yes the back seat, you name it, much of the fun I had, happened in my car. Am I crazy or anyone else experience this? Its almost like a new car has its own odor, so does a GM unrestored car with original carpet, seats, dash, door panels etc. I have had Mach 1s, cudas, cougars, tbirds just not the same?
I will post more picts of the car in a couple of days including the 1973 accident report, dealer check in sheet, etc. Last edited by richard sargent; 07-03-2009 at 05:52 AM. |

Just because it is the 12th car listed in the registry doesn't mean it is the 12th car made. There could be literally hundreds of car built prior to yours that the current owners have just not put in the registry. The goal of the registry would be to get every SD built registered. It is a long way from that goal.
Good luck with the car. More pictures, of course, would be great!

I counted 118 of the 252 produced in 1973 on the SD registry that leaves 133 not registered. The SD people are a tight knit bunch and I know some people don't want their vin out on the web, but the most knowledgeable folks hang out here, hence the question. I was not talking about Bucaneer red TAs in general only SD cars which came out in June of 73.

My cowl tag says 06b. To go on and look at vins on SD registry you have to click on SD registry tab scroll down to the bottom click on submit query and all the cars then come up.

Hey guys, it has been a while since I have been on. Most likely no-one remembers me, but I purchased a 74 SD car and am in the middle of restoring it. I was wondering who the good restoration shops are on the west coast that know GM f-body cars and how much the average nut and bot resto is costing these days for a trans am? I have heard Z&Z in PA is good but they are on the East Coast. My car is complete but in need of a left rear quarter and tail panel, the only thing the car is missing is the correct carb.
Thank you for the help, Bryan |

Brewster - 390+ points, gaining him his Junior Gold rwinkles - 365+ points, gaining him a POCI Gold superdutybob - POCI Silver It was a fun weekend but not much in the way of Birds. I guess all the bird lovers are holding out for the T/A Nationals. Had a chance to meet Rocky and Jim Rotella and Steve Schappaugh. Great guys to talk to.

Thanks to all those that helped made this past weekend so much fun and such a successful event. I missed the races due to Judging cars but hope to see some pictures and hear some stories. Congrats to all those trophy winners and hope everyone made it home safe and sound. Next is the Uprising in two weeks, and Im going to the track for sure. See you there! Brew |

Larry:
A better question is where were you......and Lloyd for that matter? We were all hoping to see that 1 of 1 73 SD with the sunroof that you keep reminding us that you own. LOL A never remember to bring a camera. I'm just not good that way! It seems that most of the pictures were taken either inside the arena or on the Popular Vote field. I didn't see many from the Concours Judging tents in the lower level.

LOL......yeah Bob, not only a "1 of 1" but........
......the semi-famous, oil-man millionare, philanthropist owner who bought the car new, was also the man who bank-rolled Carroll Shelby's first racing effort at LeMans back in the 50's.Remind me of this later too. ![]()

Steve, it was very nice meeting you and placing a face with a name. There aren't many people with our passion and its to bad where all so far away from each other to enjoy more quality time with this hobby of ours.
Hopefully next time we get to tip more then one cold beverage while talking shop. Cheers, Brew |

Steve - Nice to finally meet you as well. Hope to see you again sometime soon (with one of your fine cars in attendance!). One of the great things about this show was finally getting to put some faces with the names, it was a who's who of Pontiac!
