Really?
1) I use stands before I put ANY part of my body under a car. I have seen even good name brand jacks fail.
2) I own a Harbor Freight aluminum racing jack. Its worked fine for 3 years so far. Been using it at least once a week. Has outlasted 3 Craftsman aluminum jacks that my friend has had that saw less use. Dunno, maybe I got real lucky. Funny thing is the one I have looks identical to a Crapsman.....er, I mean Craftsman.

If you know anyone that works in a machine shop they can most likely make you a new gear. I have the same jack my ex gave me about 30 yrs ago. Still works great, wouldn't just trash it.

Buy 1 that you can get parts for down the road if needed , if not you have to try and match parts .
