One relatively simple way to tell the difference between a "standard" 455 piston and an SD is to check the skirt by the pin bosses and the width between pin bosses. The standard skirt is flat across the pin boss opening when viewed from underneath, the SD has a slightly hourglass shape to it. gap between the bosses is 1.5 for a standard for cast rods and 1.275 for an SD/forged rods. TRW's number for the single trough SD .030 was L 2423. Have both styles on my desk. the SDs will also have the snap ring groove.

My set of SD pistons have 493159 STD. stamped in their top. Hope this helps!

Scroll down to the want adds and proceed from there:
Both cars are #2 cars with standard issues and concerns with a seller that doesnt know one item in their inventory from another.
I have contacted and have not received anything valid from someone on this site selling a vehicle. Im sorry but a 15 second video for a 150k car doesn't impress let alone turn the page. Surprised its not on ebay?

I looked all over that site and can't find the cars in question.
Have they been removed?

I did see the '74 SD that was "totally restored".........sure is missing some key detail to that chassis. No info if it's for sale.

You mean the vapor cannister that should be in the center of the bulkhead, perhaps?

The auto has been detailed since the axle, leaf springs have been painted and for a low mileage car makes one wonder???????
The manual cars trunk has been re-sprayed and notice there are NO springs showing threw the holes to the rear-seat which is way wrong telling me the interior has been redone some where somehow???????
Both cars look pretty solid though and would love to see them in person. Anyone in the area to review????????????

I talked to him yesterday about the stick car and he said he had a offer of 150 for the car. In this market if it was my car I would take it.

IMHO, $150 large seems way too high considering the cars condition & some of these things we've noticed about it. It hasn't been all that long ago that we have seen better SD's go for less. Any chance this stick SD has an interesting, notable past that could inflate its' value?

Honestly I think 150k for a solid original sheet metal number matching manual 73 sd is a reasonable price. I mean when was the last time you saw one for sale ?
Also consider 73 Automatic sd cars have brought any where from 100-150k over the past year.
That arrest me red kills it for me though

Craig, those Bears will win one of these games.
LOL,
Brew
