Hello everyone, Just found this place and joined today. I thought I should jump in and intro myself. Name is Craig [TooLow] I am from central PA Harrisburg area. Life long gear head mostly Gm products but have owned a few mopars. Into motorcycles also just about anything mechanical. I am in the automotive suspension industry working for Dayton Parts [stanley springs] making leaf springs.
Ok I joined here because in July 2009 I bought a 1965 Pontiac Tempest for my girlfriend. It is going to be her everyday driver, fixer upper and cruiser. The car is reasonable solid, 326, 2bbl 2 spd auto, power steering, A/C, bench seat. It needs rust repair on lower fenders, floors, trunk, exhaust work and interior work, paint, heck just a plain fixin up. But it is a running and driving car. My girlfriend [Barb] is learning to weld and do mechanical work as she is working on the car. She said it is her car and she wants to do a lot of the work to it, I agreed cause any help I get is a plus and I think she will be much more proud when driving the finished product knowing she did it. Like I said before I am generaly a GM person, owning a 65 elcamino and a 48 chevy aerosedan[streetrod project] but this is my first Pontiac and is a learning experience. I already learned that the 2 spd trans is not a gm powerglide but in fact a st-300, which I found out after I tore the pan down and tried to change the filter & gasket. LOL now the search is on for a filter and gasket to fit. Anyway, again HELLO EVERYONE from Craig & Barb ![]()

Craig,
The pan gasket and filter set for the ST-300 is Fram FT1014. Good luck with the Tempest project, most all of the chassis and brake parts directly interchange with those on on your '65 El Camino. I'm sure Barb will be able to find most of the Pontiac technical help she needs for the project here on PY. to the PY Forums.Bart |

Nice fleet!
Most big Canadian Pontiacs came with Chev power, not sure about Tempests but up here there'd be a good chance your trans WAS a PG.... with a 283.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the good words about our cars. I have been going through and reading a bunch on the site gathering up info. Have owned a bunch of GM vehickes, 70 chevelle,69 skylark,69 cutlass,78 & 79 camaros, and several chevy trucks. Also had several mopars 67 & 69 barracudas and a 37 plymouth pickup streetrodded. I did make a mistake in my origional post saying this was my first Pontiac, actually I had a 1948 Pontiac Torpedo-straight 8 automatic with lots of old tims mods done to it, frenched headlights, frenched antenna, smoothed fenders and trunk,etc... Drove that for a few years. I have to admit I really like the Tempest and am having as much fun fixing it up as Barb is. She cant drive my elcamino cause its a 4spd, so we had tofind an auto for her to cruise in. Again thanks for all the welcome's we will be seeing ya around the site probably asking some sort of questions.
