My point about you moving vertically in her plane is related to the speed measurement. If you take a flat vertical surface and tilt it you can see that it will appear to be moving toward the target at a more rapid rate than it actually is.

If you take a flat surface and move it vertically, there is no relative motion forward. If you tilt the surface forward and then move it down in a straight line you can see that there is now apparent motion forward even though there is still no actual forward motion. My point is, when you were traveling downhill, the LIDAR could get a false reading because you appeared to be moving forward more rapidly than you actually were. Setup is supposed to be where you are on a level with the target.

Look up cosine effect, it would ordinarily subtract from your speed and appear to lower your actual speed. However if you were to get them to acknowledge that they know what is you can turn it against them by arguing as I pointed out.

If you can get her to admit that there were other vehicles in view at the same time, you could ask her, if they were in front of you why did she target you bringing up the rear.

i guess you could win in court, but im thinking theyre gonna give ya the shaft. ive always managed to talk the judges into keeping the points off my record if i plea guillty and pay the fine, maybee something you should think about unless its merely the princibale of the matter, then by all means fight it but if ya loose you sure to get the points

I also found a Chicago Sun Times article from late last year that said in Chicago, a LIDAR ticket is tossed every time, all that has to happen is for the defendant to show up in court and challenge the validity (thank a lawyer who set the precedent by getting his own speeding ticket tossed after challenging the legal validity of LIDAR).

I like the possibility that perhaps the sun was behind you?

Don't bet on ever getting the laws changed. Too many citizens think you are a bad guy for "speeding" (a usually pretty arbitrary limit that is OFTEN designed for the precise purpose of extracting a tax under the guise of protecting safety). Those that would PREFER to live in a Police State rather than the land of the free applaud all police efforts to control behavior they don't like.

Last 2 laser tickets I got, I paid my traffic attorney and got dismissals both times. I now have a detector and don't have that problem anymore!

One of my heavy throttle handed buddys is 6 for 6 (or more now) with this attorney and got dismissals in every single case.

I don't know how he does it, but I sure wouldn't waste my time in court for a remote possibility of dismissal or reduction in fees. I will gladly pay a little more to just make it go away.

Funny. Just fighting the man after getting stung in a speed trap. Getting shot with LIDAR from over 1600' away while coming downhill (even if it was my vehicle that was shot) is too sketchy.

Hire a lawyer for a couple hundred dollars and he will make it go away. It's worth every penny compared to the points and insurance increase. I'm pretty sure the cops get certified on the devices, and if their certification is valid, it's all but case closed for you. Get a lawyer and you probably don't even need to show up in court.

I'd go into court with pictures of the area from where you were driving that you got popped showing where the cop was sitting and try to show cars in front of your vehicle in the photo. I'd also draw a diagram up for the judge to see as well.
