That's right. Used to be Wisc Central til CN bought it out. Looked on a map to see where it went to Canada, but it was impossible because it branched off to so many places in paper country. It's a busy line and crews are always doing maintenance work on it. They must be managing the traffic better as we seldom see trains slow down/stop anymore, at least out by us. Chicago is said to be one of the worst freight train bottlenecks in the nation.

yep and they put the entrances for the TOFC/COFC ramps at the mouths of them which screws up traffic , Actually they are some of the best ones as they set them up so we don't have to cross live tracks if possible , I been to all of them and there is 5 of them ( your close ) one isn't really considered in Chicago but close ( west chicago auto ramp ) and then you have Rochelle ( 90 miles west ) but they are closing down the ones in the innner city as they aren't really needed anymore and streamlining the trains thru ( they are supposed to close the 22nd st ramp and yard and Global I as they are in some of the high crime and congestion areas and at 22nd st they flip a truck over on the ramp atleast onece a week as you have to make a doubleback to get up to the yard from the city street , and now they are building a Big Facility south of Joliet by the rt66 Dragstrip and nascrap track

the route the CN takes to Canada is up the Oshkosh side of the Fox river valley thru Greenbay ( it follows the river closely) and then parallells rt 41 to Escanaba Mi

it is, I used to go to national mine by ishpeming to take them coolant products , the area will blow your mind, north of iron mountain on the backroads .the trains up there kill more bears or deer than cars .

Some units have "limp horns"-they sound like an "asthmatic goose with tight drawers".And the comfort cabs are well insulated.

yes, but it can derail the train and would you want to have to spnd the rest of your shift with a possibly maimed and Pissed off 1000 pound plus animal on the front of your train??? Not me .. it was bad enough my late freind had to share seating arrangements with a 10 point buck on I-94 in his new kenworth on opening day of gun season back in 95 at custer park MIch... he hit it and it came thru the a puller of the truck and was alive in the cab with him , they totalled the 6 week old truck

CHICAGO — Metra Executive Director Phil Pagano has been asked to stay in the six-county Chicago region while outside special counsel investigates his activities, the Chicago Tribune has reported. Pagano, who's currently on administrative leave, is also barred from conducting any business on behalf of the commuter line or having any work-related contact with Metra employees.

Metra suspended Pagano Friday, saying it's conducting an investigation into "serious official misconduct." Metra Chairwoman Carole Doris launched the inquiry last week following a report that Pagano received an unauthorized $56,000 bonus.

Pagano's leave extends to at least May 14, the date of the next Metra board meeting.

CHICAGO - Metra's executive director, Phil Pagano, died today after being hit by a Metra commuter train in suburban McHenry County, Fox Chicago has reported. His death comes the same day the Metra board was to meet to investigate allegations that Pagano had received an improper bonus.

Pagano has been on administrative leave since last week, when the Metra board chairman announced a probe into the allegations.

Pagano had served as executive director of the rail system for 20 years.

The paper today said he calmly walked in front of the train and was watching the engineer the whole time. He was carrying a note. He's dead.

if only more Chicago politicians would follow his example!

While i have no problem with him leaving the planet,he needs to leave train crews out of the equation.I hope the Engineer sues the estate.

$269,625 a year and 11 weeks vacation seemed like a pretty comfortable pay package. Agree the engineer should sue Metra and the estate.
He supposedly a copy of Metra's procedure for handling pedestrian suicides was found on his body.

he kind of got what was coming to him and I have no remose as this guy is the guy who fired my Aunts Father from the board when he became chairperson back in the 80's , my aunts dad said the guy was bad and tried to hide **** then .

Man survives after train shears his car in half

LAPEER, Mich. - A man who allegedly drove around lowered crossing gates and whose car was sheared in half by an Amtrak train sustained only minor injuries in the incident, the Detroit Free Press has reported. James Brimmer, 26, of Flint, Mich., declined medical treatment in the accident.

A witness told police Brimmer drove around lowered crossing gates ahead of an Amtrak train that had just pulled out of the Lapeer station. The train's lead locomotive obliterated Brimmer's 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix starting immediately behind its front seats; fortunately, no passengers were in the car. Brimmer's only apparent injury was a scratch on his left knee that didn't require medical attention.

One wheel of the car was launched through the window of a nearby tax service office.

According to Lapeer Police Sgt. Craig Miller, Brimmer has been issued several citations in connection with the incident.
