I had the front seat done in a traditional 60's diamond pattern, black vinyl. The upholsterer did a fantastic job. Now I have to save up to do the back seat and door panels

Since no one makes fenderwell headers for a 64 GTO let alone a Pontiac, I weighed out lots of options with other brands of fenderwell headers that are available. The best choice I found was a set of small block chevy fat fender car headers since the tubing configuration is the same as a set of D ports.

Me on a nice hot 115 degree day in the shop working on the pile. Check out the look on my boys face. Does that say "Yeah, its a Pontiac" or what.

Then I took an old set of firebird headers I got from my friend Bill Hamilton and cut the flange off leaving about 1/2" of header tube to play with. Then I purchased some J bends from Summit to make the connections from the flange to the fenderwell header. Lots of cutting, trimming, fitting, and tight welding. They turned out okay for an ametuer header guy. I'll take some more pictures after I get them painted white.

I am liking what I see, can't wait to see the finished product.
Any idea on color??? Love the interior, good pick with the diamond pleat, very period. I would have loved to do that with mine, but never had the funds. I just went with the stock exterior with the race drivetrain. Keep up the good work, looks like you got a lot done in 2 days. At this pace you should be done next week sometime ![]() Mark

Very Nice Dil, Should be a great project for a 64 Tempest Chassis and very unique to cruise the streets in with your son!

Go,
The upholsterer is a hispanic guy that's been in the biz for 30+ years and just opened his own shop here in Tulsa. Mark, I'm thinking straight orange just like the old BRUTUS/ Goodies Speed Shop 65 GTO was painted. Light enough that it won't show minor imperfections in my imperfect body work and bright enough to blind the chevy guys when I'm rolling down the track

Orange is a pretty HOT color right now. I was thinking of having my car redone in Tangerine Pearl before I lost my job.
The 64 will look sweet in the orange with it nose in the air. Mark

Nothing like a car with a "truck fork" under the front end! Pretty cool work! Yea a blower or stacks sticking out of the hood are the ticket.
Wildest ride I had was in college a buddy had a 55 1/2(56 body 55 glass front end) Chevy wagon with a straight axle stick 350 built by Reher and Morrison when they were first starting out and a Edlebrock Street tunnel ram. All over the road. And of course only one seat so I was bouncing all over-ah to be young and fearless.

Tight squeeze fitting the steering shaft through the tubes but then again, when aren't headers a tight fit somewhere.

That is one bad @ss project....If it looks half as good as your 66 it will be killer. BTW headers are the biggest PITA working on a Pontiac...especially an A body
