Strange interior combo with the black seats and red combo, does not work for me.

I do dig a red on all red interior though.

Looks nice, but just reading the description, "The restoration was done over the past 6 months the car was worked on daily by professional restorers. ..... Everything on this SD works except the clock".

Why go through all that, and not fix the clock?

Any use in saving an SD crank?

Has approx 1.5" crack on journal for #5 & 6 rods.

Really no use for me other than a door stop.

could get maybe 10 bucks for scrap out of it.

Heck, I'd love it for a garage conversation piece but would be scared of the freight cost to get it here?

I get down there occasionally - if you guys can work something out, I could get it out to Norwalk for you.

I compared it to a stock crank and didn't see differences IIRC. I know they did different machining with the fillets, but that gets done when you regrind a crank today anyways.

any other differences. I have heard rumors that the metal compound was different.

when i tore mine apart it had the 103 crank number that most stock cranks had.when i asked, several others said thiers was the same.in other words, once they are out of the bock i'm not sure how to tell them apart.

SO the SD crank is only theoretically 'better' than a stock 'N' crank when it is/was new. once it has been used extensively (worn) and / or machined, the playing ground is equal. Interesting.

Brew/ Boss - Let me know what you thoughts are. Perhaps something can be worked out if I decide to let it go. I will be going to the T A nats, but that is a bit away. If I take the 74 again, I could bring it. If t he 78 is ready, I doubt I want to have a crank in it.

Yeap, your right Matt

No worries, since I just would hate to see it become a swim raft anchor.

i'll beg to differ on the nitriding. though it was published as such initially, (and in many articles for years) adams and others told me directly that they were not and that was an error from the very first release to the media on the engine--what they wanted done, but it never happened--(this was before the sh!t hit the fan over it). the rolled fillets i'm still of the belief that process was done to the cranks initially, (some part of the early run of engines) but wasn't present on all of them. that's from asking owners of original engines what they found when they opened them. fwiw, my crank lacked the N but was a 103-- with the number as cast--and it is a nodular iron crank. it'd been through a 20/20 cut before so the rolled fillets, if they existed, were gone. BTW, TAkid, I'll pony up a few bucks for that cracked crank, been meaning to give you a ring--i'll be out of work after the 31st and will have plenty of time to stop over your way.

give me a ring. Should be around most days. If weather permits, we get the cars out and do the first SD run of the year.

You have good taste in roads my friend. There are a few in the area that may be less crowded for a good run.

to get to your place i could just pop down college hill, hit 22 to 57 and drive in ...but if it's the bird, it's down 611 to 32 to new hope, over to lambertville, up 29 to the back road that leads to kingwood, the back way from there to del val area from the Corner store, a rip around from mt pleasent to rick road to 579 all the way back up and down the mountain over bloomsbury, a jaunt on 173 to charlestown, some backroads there to asbury anderson connection then the back way past the hotel to the top of schooleys ....1st way would be about 45 minutes of boring straightness ...the other way probably 1.5 hours and lots of ))))) You should have seen the roads i found on the way to NJ Steve's --haven't run her that hard since i lived in VT.

ANSWER>> General Kinetics< Founder> Don Tewless. In the words of Former Pontiac Engineer Tom Nell on special Cams for Pontiac starting in 1967 SCCA cam for their 303 race engine , used in a race in 1970. GK was also involved in Chevy cam tryouts, big and small block, and produced hundreds of thousands of cams for GM, six cylinders too

Quote>"Tom Nell: Honestly, Jeff Young gets all the credit because he was the guy who did this program. We were trying to find out what the engine wanted. Jeff worked with a guy named Don Tewless, who was just starting a cam company called General Kinetics, in Detroit. Tewless would make us masters, and Jeff had him make up I don't know how many cams to run a basic test to determine what was the most important factor in valve timing that influenced the engine's power. Was it the lift or the duration, where you opened the valve, where you closed it, whatever?

(They were made on a upright Bridgeport grinder, some call them vertical grinders)
>>Tom Vaught may know more on this subject..
