Still, it would be a fun driver even though it's fairly plain. But not for my $38K. Maybe high $20's?
Wonder if it has an M22 or something more easily obtainable?
And someone mentioned the later, smaller (& higher) clutch pedal. When did this start? '75?
Smaller clutch pedal was new for 73,as I recall.

In my observation ALL 70-71 standard interior birds came with unplated (non-chrome) pot metal inside door releases.

1972 standard trim got the chrome versions.
Pretty easy part to switch out, just like adding the stainless (shiny) pedal trim.

Are you refering to the trim around the CHROME handle? I think that all the handles were the same, the standard got black plastic trim and the custom got?

The release lever itself was chrome plated on ALL 70-74 inside door releases but remander (body) of standard trim part was unchromed pot metal & was fully covered with an interior colored plastic trim piece.

Here's another one for you. This was a board member's car that is now at that TA dealer in NE. I believe this car was very original and untouched when he bought it and started the resto on it. It is also a December built VN that is only a few hundred numbers from mine.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...mZ320629131730

It could be that 71 was a transition year for this standard/deluxe door handle thing to go away. I think that we already know that with most facts on these cars, there are no absolutes. My car is a console car but had a non-console shifter in it. Also, my emission sticker was on the passenger side of the top of the core support. Two things that supposedly shouldn't have happened.

The rusty '71 T/A I had a few years ago was a standard interior car had the chrome inner door handles. It was built 1/71 at Norwood. It only had 74,000 miles and sitting in a storage lot since 1981.

I know some the the interior things are fixable. The body, engine, and unique features that make it a solid car are there?

What makes this a 20k car, and the other a 78K car?

I'm not sure anyone here is saying that the White TA is a $78K car in today market. More valuable & more correct, yes. But to bring $78,...I'd be very surprised.

FWIW I'll attach a photo from the inside of my 04A '71 Norwood TA. I've owned the car since '76 and am pretty certain the door panel and trim are original (still has the original water shields between the trim panel and door shell). Note the blue trim cover on the door handle.

We probably should move this discussion out of 455 HO forum and into the general area!

Nope, not mine. I found this car by word of mouth about 5 years ago. It was out in your area, I think in Sacramento. The owner was thinking about selling it and I was ready to fly out and see it but he decided to keep it. I think he later moved out of CA.

Does anyone know if the upper and lower heat shrouds for a '72 488945 intake and heat crossover are reproduced? I checked here on PY, and it looks like they only have the '71 version.

There is no rust on these, and the lower is ok, but on the upper, both rivet mounting holes broke off the shroud. If there are no reproductions, is this repairable?

Also, the heat crossover part no. 488983 is different than what I found in group 3.609 of the parts manual, but the crossover fits perfectly and from all indications is the correct and original application. Has anyone else come across this crossover part no?

Thanks!

i'm not sure, didn't realize there was a diiference until you pointed it out.i have had several 69-71's but only 2 72's and the shrouds were already loose.

what is the hole in the 3rd picture?is that a spot for another rivet?haven't looked at mine close in years.

Yes, the shroud has a depression and then a flat surface for the rivet to mount the shroud to the crossover. You can see in the same picture the rivet and round portion of the shroud still on the crossover.

I decided to repair the rivet holes on the upper shroud. It's thin metal, and was challenging not to burn through the part. The top gets pretty hot, so I'm not sure there is a high heat glaze I can put on it to finish the welds.

For my 455th post on these boards I thought I would update that last weekend the motor was delivered to Jim Robertson in Abilene to handle the rebuild.

Jim is well known here on PY. Mark Samford at Samford Racing Heads does all of the machine work. Here is a link with some information on a motor they just finished for Milt Milton: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=654615

During dis-assembly we were pleased to find standard bore pistons and untouched (non ported) heads and intake. Rods and crank are all original, but the pistons had been changed along the way. The cylinders look great which was not surprising for a 73K original mile car, so we'll see how they true up.

Since the limiting factor to producing horsepower will be the mechanical fuel pump and 2 1/4" collector on the original exhaust manifolds, we are going to target 400HP, leaving the intake and heads stock.
