Using Facebook will not cause computer harm. Th problems arise when not so savvy computer users click on every link they can and go to some malicious websites. If you have to enter email information, or install programs to view a picture, that would seem odd to 75% of people. The other 25% are the ones I deal with at my work. Most virus removal customers are repeats in there every 3-6 months.

I've been here for a decade. Member of other internet forums for about that long. Facebook for a few years. My companies whole database is online. Send and receive emails by the dozens every day. I've never had a bad experience or clicked a link somebody sent me that I didn't know anything about.
Maybe those that tend that way should stay off of Facebook.
I have had a wreck or two in the years I've been driving and I still drive....more carefully. I don't stay home.

You guys are funny. You certainly do not have to put all of your info "out there for all to see", nor will Facebook cause you computer problems. If used properly, it can be a useful networking tool, and a great way to catch up with people from years ago...if you choose to. You control what people see. If you use some common sense, you will not run into trouble.

No you don't! The employees (CEO, board, admins) of Facebook control what can be seen. You don't think there will ever be a pissed-off employee somewhere might open the servers up? Or miss a critical security patch and the servers get hacked? They have had security breeches of users data, happens every day somewhere.

I don't and will never have an account on FB. Nothing that is stored on anyone Else's system is secure, that's a fact. I wouldn't trust cloud services with any type of sensitive info either.

I never got the point of FB either, guess I'm too old.

There isn't a thing anyone could get off of facebook other than my name. My friends are the only ones that can see my info and at that, its only my email and phone number. A smart thing that I recommend, only add people you are friends with. I don't have 1000's of friends like some people I know, I have around 200.

IMO: Notice how great all “free” internet services when they are first launched? Such as Facebook, Linkedin, and now the latest trend in saving all information in a “Cloud”.

This tactic is a simple strategy to build the databases for exploitation and selling personal data AFTER the “private” owned companies go IPO. Facebook issues already mentioned and on the news almost daily is a perfect illustration of this.
Linkedin and Cloud formats, etc., will most certainly follow suit in this money making strategy.

Why? Like Drug Dealers – “…give them a taste for free until they are hooked and can’t live without it, then they will pay anything to keep the habit going”.

Feeling secure with storage of personal or company information, documentation and images in any “free” format is not for me. When paying for services one has more control and choice based on a contract and consideration (payment) that enforceable by law. I mention this due to the recent histories of “free” providers who have been slapped on the wrist with minor fines for exploitation of personal data…and ask a simple question: How much money did a company such as Facebook etc. refund you for selling your “private” personal information? Most “refunds” are pennies at most for sure. And what happens to “your” data when the company is sold to a third party?

Nothing wrong with those companies methods if you are comfortable with them. I simply prefer not to participate.

If Facebook is so safe and wholesomely good Andy, ask Charles why he had to clean out and repair his wife's computer. All she basicly uses is Facebook on it. It's not as safe as you think it is. It's the hole that fills your computer with crap. You only 'think' it's safe.

I know facebook is safe. The garbage applications that people give access to their account and a multitude of other things are the problem. I use facebook and only facebook. I never give any outside program access to my information or to post things to my account. People that click on anything and blindly click "I accept" at all prompts are the ones that cause their own problems.

I'm always signed in to FB when my computer is on, and that is a lot. I have yet to see any computer issues related to facebook.com and I repair computers full time. Computers are only as safe as the operator allows them to be.

It's not what you post on Facebook, but everywhere you go & do on the internet. Simply logging on to Facebook drops tracking cookies onto your system. Why have so many major corporations sunk billions into Facebook? Data mining rights.
