Does any body have a set of nos gm wheel wells for a 69 gto that were bought as replacements from gm. Are they different from the originals?
Did gm make one set fits all like 68 to 70?
Reason is the set I have for my project have date codes of A 28 2 which I think is 1972.
It has a circle cut out line for heater box on pas side and slightly different or shorter metal at splash area at bottom. Otherwise identical.
Any thoughts ? Thanks

wells are the same 68/69 and then a different well 70-72 -- they're not interchangeable across the 69/70 threshold

I'm not sure the date codes read that way on the body panels, I thought no one was ever able to decifer the fender date stamps (of which that number reminds me of) but the blower motor cutout template pressed into the fender you describe means it's a 70-72 well. Does it have holes for J nuts to hold it to the fenders or square cutouts where you'd put one of those license plate plastic retainers? The 68/69 has square holes for those and the 70-72 had the round holes for the J nuts.

I just had two NOS pieces for a 68 that would not fit my fender or quarter panel. That is probably why they didn't make it on a car.

It's worth noting that in 69 there are two different style inner fenders, its at the lower rear where they seem to have lengthened the metal to negate the need for the rubber skirt.

I'm not sure if it's an early - late thing or a plant thing.

I checked the wheel well holes today and they are square holes the same size as the other 69's I have. I took pics of them and will post them shortly.

These ones seem to be shorter at the rear and at the front as you describe not longer?
The creases in the metal on the curves are a dead match to all others that I compared them with also. Which had to be the same stamp machine I would think? But they are slightly different as you described?

The difference is significant, the long ones have a good 1.5 to 2" of extra material at the back where they meet the bottom of the firewall. This extra material replaces the rubber flap that most 69's have there. I first ran into it replacing a tub that had been cut for access to the AC blower. We pulled a set off a 69 lemans from California and they were the longer ones.

Are these maybe for a 69 grand prix?
I heard somewhere that the GP's will fit a 69 GTO, I dunno.
Maybe I should fix the old ones as i'm running out of time.

GP units look like they will fit from the engine side but the wheel opening contour is completely different.
