That kid looking at the model kits gave me a serious flashback. I LIVED in the model kit isle and still built them regularly up into my early 30s. Mostly WWII aircraft.

Steve,
From the picture, I'd say that B-58 was based at either Carswell or Little Rock. Not enough trees in the picture to be Bunker Hill (Grissom). Mike, I knew a B-58 crew chief. Tony said the SOBs were hard on tires and wheels, but they all cried when the Air Force retired the fleet.

Yup, this was me too in the 70's. I loved the model aisle, regardless of what store I was in. They don't even have model aisle's of this magnitude anymore, not even in hobby shops.

The B-58 had a complex front wheel retraction mechanism, but I don't believe that was a particular problem with maintenance. I think it was just the overall complexity of the aircraft. I can't imagine hearing one of these overhead. I've seen a few F4 Phantoms fly, and those GE J79 engines are LOUD. Imagine 4 of those engines lifting a B-58. Must have been a real sight to see, and hear!
Here's another pic to get Pontiac fans hearts a-pumping....

I find those exhaust manifolds seriously attractive.

And here's that Olds today...
I know it's sick, but I still want an airport limo in my fleet too.

I think this picture was taken in late 1944. My grandmother, my Dad, my sister and me in front of my Dad's 1942 Chevy. It is one of the pictures in a box full that my cousin in Oklahoma just found.

The 1964 Car And Driver issue with the 64 GTO and the phantom Ferrari GTO put fledgling Car And Driver magazine on the map, and they realized that creating controversial covers sold magazines. They repeated their marketing tactic with a 1965 version, pitting the Pontiac 2+2 against the Ferrari 330/GT 2+2, the latter having a V-12 engine. The Pontiac 2+2 was prepped by Royal Pontiac
The Pontiac 2+2 beat the Ferrari in the 1/4 mile, and was within 1 second of the Ferrari around a road course, which is amazing for a vehicle the size of the Pontiac 2+2. To top it off, the Pontiac 2+2 was 1/3 the price of the Ferrari. Go Pontiac! The 0-60 time listed for the Pontiac 2+2 (3.9 seconds) was a milestone mark, and was quoted as the fastest 0-60 mph time for a production car (on street tires) for nearly 35 years.
