Yes, the build is coming together for the second time, the sub-par parts provided by McCarty have been discarded and may be sold at some point as memorabilia. Stay tuned for ebay auction details. As for the original machine work and assembly, I keep asking myself wtf...

Middle Man… I think I could come up with a few more adjectives that are more accurate.

You know what they say, if you want it done right might as well do it yourself. Great job on fixing the issues. I know you shouldn't have to but good thing you did. Could you imagine putting it for the first time with all shady stuff in the track and something go wrong in the pass. I think double checking everything might have save your life and the car. Goodluck.

Valve train geometry with the T&D Rockers looks good. Block to rocker bar clearance looks tight.

Looks good. Are you going to dyno the engine again before installing in the car?

Yes, the engine will be run on a dyno again normally aspirated. There have been quite a few fixes and upgrades.

The picture on the left was as received from McCarty/BES Racing.

Looks like McCarty/BES were trying for Canted Valve's from the angle of those rockers.

Maybe that was a Super Stocker trick for more flow?

What, if anything did you do to solve the lifter tie bar/to block issue? I don't think our Crower lifters were nearly that close to the lifter bore tops. Make sure you have the correct Pontiac lifter bodies and that the bodies ARE NOT CROSS DRILLED. They are supposed to be cross drilled and then plugged on the side where the block feed is. If the cross drilling is left open, you will have way too much oil to the top end. Best of luck with your engine.

You are missing a name there Ed, (the machinist's name)

Simply explanation for that deal, (that Lynn suffered thru during his whole RA-V project), the "machinist" who originally machined the heads for Lynn was a hack.
Don't know if the guy was a drunk or just opinionated (like Marcella) but he did stuff his way and lots of times it was wrong.

So Yes, Lynn contracted out the work originally. The "machinist" did the work, and now you are lumping BES into the conversation which is simply wrong.

Tony and his guys did not do this work. Drilling the stud holes for the studs. A few thousands of error and you get a bunch of offset at the pivot of the rocker. The Jesel shaft rockers register totally different as the head threads simply secure the shaft system.

Yes, Tom I agree, Bes & McCarty are Hacks.

Whether they did the work themselves or had it sub-contracted out, had it done by one of their employees and then sold it or Let it out the door with knowledge of any or all the issues then there is no debate - ONLY A HACK WOULD HAVE LET THIS ENGINE OUT THE DOOR.

Tom, Considering you had just about nothing to do with this build why don't you float around on another thread.

This Brand New Delivered engine from BES has now been completely gone through after Delivery Directly Received From BES.

Lynn did his own deal for sure. Can't argue with that deal.
Think you are throwing Tony and his crew under the bus though when you are assuming that they did all of the work. The customer is always right. The customer was Lynn.

Ed was Lynn's customer.

If I want to set some of your theories straight, based on early conversations with Lynn over the phone, that is for the boards benefit, so keep your opinions on what I post to yourself.

So now knowing you had prior knowledge from Lynn that his heads were worked on by a Hack, why would you wait until now to let us all know. Please Theorize this. What a Great resource for Ed you are, maybe he can use your input on the third rebuild.

Yep I had prior knowledge of some of Lynn's difficulties. So what, everyone has issues in a start-up project. Took the Barry Grant people 3 attempts to get their 6 shooter manifold right for the Pontiac Guys.

Ed and I had many phone call conversations sometimes for hours so don't be stupid and infer that Ed and I were not communicating.

I and another PY member suggested to Ed that he remove his engine from BES and take it to Steve Morris Shop for dyno testing. Tony always tests any engine that leaves his shop so the engine was going to be run there one way or another.

Yes I talked to Ed. Call it a resource. Whereas you are a non resource with an opinion and nothing more. Never charged Ed one dime for any of my time on the phone with him just like I have never charged any PY member for time when they call me.

The owner gets the final say in the discussion. That was Ed's call. Don't attempt to throw this on me because you bring NOTHING to the discussion. You are a fool who runs his mouth and nothing more.

Tom, whether the “machinist” screwed up the rocker stud location is really irrelevant at this point. If the valve train geometry was wrong, BES was paid to fix it, which they tried to do by welding up the rocker locations and re-drilling them in new locations. Not sure who's bright idea this was...

If Tony wasn’t happy with the final outcome, he shouldn’t have shipped the engine. If you look back to previous posts you can see that the stud locations were not the only issue with the valve train. Is it the “machinists” fault the rockers were hitting the retainers, wrong studs were used, one guide plate was cracked, a valve spring was hit with a drill and the rockers didn’t line up on the valves as your expect on a build like this or even a stock rebuild? Let’s not forget the wood chips or the rocker pad final machining.

What do you think it cost to have the heads welded up and redrilled along with using sup-par rockers wrong ARP studs, and adjustable guide plates, vs. going with a T&D shaft mount system?

Please be specific about what work Lynn’s “machinist” did. Are you saying BES didn’t weld up the rocker stud locations and re-drill them? I know they did, which, in my opinion was the wrong way to fix the issue. A rocker shaft should have been used. Why one wasn’t used or recommended by either Lynn or Tony can only be answered by them.

No Ed, What I am saying is that the initial machining on the heads (including the studs for the rocker arms) was done by the original machinist, I believe.

Once the stud drilling/threads were in the wrong spot, where was the original sin, Ed?

BES did not contract for that initial work, Lynn did.

There are no innocent people here Ed except for maybe you in the machining process but the original mistake I believe was with that guy.
