Here's a scan of one of the pictures of the complete TurboForce kit for the 1978 H-O Racing catalog. All the parts lightly colored were part of the kit. Also, the pressure bonnet is a polished variant (stock was left as cast and machined) of version 3. There are also additional parts not shown in the previous pictures of the one restored for 78Macho.

Said it before, there is some very nice Package Engineering involved in that Kit.

There is also an magazine article out there somewhere where Ken Crocie used a larger Rajay type turbo and made some very nice power in recent times.

I still have that catalog. Craig Hendrickson & Ken Crocie and all the others here. It is a great deal of information that you are offering. I know H-O use to offer a lot of how to articles in the past. I know you don't have the kits any more, but do you have the kit instruction manual available? I wonder if that would be good information for people wanting to build a similar kit. By the way what is Ken's Pure simplicity project.

Excuse me for asking, you mentioned the turbo covair's vacuum advance unit of the late 60's and also a unit from a Cadillac in the 80's. But you never mentioned the vacuum advance units used in the late 70's turbo V6 buicks. Are these also worth looking for?

Never used the one from a Turbo V6 Buick, so I can't say. Anyone have experience with same?

I just checked the kit assmb. manual (internal H-O-not for sale!) and on the TK-821(B/R vac. control) there is a long list of intructions (cut, weld, solder, package , etc. to convert a dual port vac. ctrl.to HEI dist. with a note in my writing- "just use a 1973595". Go to post # 45 for othe Delco #s.Holleys have a teflon shaft bushing that functions well as a shaft seal. If you were in a T/F car and had the PBP tube blow off, you were immedately reminded why it was there. The interior filled with gas fumes! from gas blowing past the throttle shafts.
Vent tube vs.bonnet: The Q-Jet had 3 different vent tube locations-1 inside the air cleaner ring . the 2 out side the ring were clocked differently, which meant there were 3 different bonnet P/Ns. The external vents were sealed to the bonnet with an o-ring,which meant the machining had to be exact. Kern took care of that-perfectly.

I dont think it was mentioned, but we grafted the the "corvair" dual port diaphram to a HEI mounting plate,using 2 vacuum controls to make one.

Nascar: crocie junior was refering to the stock 68 Firebird's dual vac. control I'm putting it in an old iron dist. with Crane XRI innerds for my turbo engine. I got my ctrl. from Franks Pontiac Parts.

Choke shaft leakage: Not a concern since the leakage will be "dry air"-not mixed with fuel. It does not need to be sealed.
Ref. CarCraft Dec. 2009 for "Ludicrous Pontiac Power" I used a T-61 compressor mated to a Rayjay center section with a custom adapter plate and shaft to a Rayjay 1.3 A/R exhaust housing. Big airflow in a compact Rayjay format! Rayjays were designed for aircraft use and originally made by TRW

Hello Mr. Crocie, I have spoken to you in the past on the phone and purchased some books from you also. I did a search of the Cadilac parts available on Rock Auto and couldn't find the 1973595 part number. I found some close numbers, but not the exact. I also did a search of the 1966 Corvair turbo and found vacuum advance unit readily available. I then went to my local O'reilly and found that the corvair unit could be ordered there also. I will try the local dealer tomorrow. I will try the other 2 numbers you supplied, 1115411 & 1115367 also. Do you mind me asking what application those 2 numbers are for. Now that I have your attention. What do you think about the Vortech Powerhat bonnet? Thank you in advance and now I have to go and clean some snow. The temperature is -7 F with wind chill of -29. I thought I would include this, because I know the weather is warmer where you are at. Have a good day.

Lee: Something about the "corvair" reference was bothering me. The 'vair , like most 6 cyl. chevys mounted the vac. cntrl. on the outside of the dist.with a curved bracket.It doesn't look like it can be modified to work with an HEI or point type vac cntrl. I'm sure we used the 1115411 from the '68 firebird.

Update: Craig did use the corvair can. The listing for the O'reilly unit says "call for price and avail." It is not listed on the BWD website.

The 3 part numbers came up as nolonger available at the buick dealer today. Not sure where to look now. Thanks for your input

OK-figured out my vacuum control confusion, and it is right there in Craigs discription of the turbo vacuum control. www.originalho.com. The 1962 unit is the only Corvair cntl. that can be modified to be used with the HEI cntl. '63 and later 'vair dist. mounted to the outside of the dist. and would be extremely difficult to modify to work with the HEI mounting base. I looked in Google images for the clue.
Nascar: did you check with Frank's. At this point , just buy a dist from Crane, MSD, Mallory, etc. and be done with it. If you want the HEI, MSD make a boost retard box,lile the one I used in the CarCraft article.

Mr. Crocie I agree with what you are saying concerning the using the MSD unit. By the way I just found 22 of the 1115367 vacuum advance units at Collectors Auto Oroville GM in Oroville, WA.

I have made no progress on my Fire Am but I did get an update from Jim. He asked me to post the update and a couple of pictures of Macho #202:

#202 is nearing the completion of the restoration process. We are hopeful to have it done by spring and anticipate showing it next year at MCACN 2015 in Chicago.
