After months of searching, I found the ideal plate! Pennsylvania allows year-of-manufacture plates for antique automobiles (a new plate in 61 was embossed with 58). And this is even an unused plate. Clearly I'm pretty excited about this

Nice find. In Michigan if you have a car over 25 years old you can get a "Authentic" licence plate with a one time fee of $35 that never needs to be renewed. I have one on my GT-37 . If I went with a "Historic" plate it would have to be renewed every 10 years and cost the same $35 each time.

Plus the "Historic" plates have that little horseless carriage on them.

"Authentic" plate is a much better choice for a muscle car.

I have a 65 TN plate that I checked into using but they said it would be like a antique plate with all of the restrictions that they have, so I decided against it.
I drive my car almost every day and don't want to be restricted to just weekends to and from shows, and parades.

I'm going to check again and see if it can be registered as a personal plate instead of antique plate. I don't mind paying for registration every year.

Florida is a state for a huge multiple choice of plates. Maybe 30-40 different styles. Apparently this goes way back. I have a 1964 "Convention Car" plate. I think I read that they had 250 of those available each year. Not sure exactly what those were issued for. A friend of mine has a 1966 "Hot Rod Editor" plate on his car. That's the only one I've seen like that.

Hey Mess, how are you progressing on your dad's car? I have Florida Black YOM plates on mine because that's where it was originally purchased and registered. NC allows this if you also purchase a NC plate and pay your use tax every year for new stickers. I just keep the NC plate under the drivers seat in case I ever need it.

I do the same thing, keep mine in the glove box. The car has been coming along pretty good. I have been driving it more and more which I think it really needed. It really needed to just be blown out! I put some new tires on it, fixed the over heating issue, and now I am on to the brakes. I got slowed down a bit recently as I found out a few weeks back I am going to be a dad for the first time. That's the age old story though right?!?

Wisconsin doesn't offer YOM plates - yet.

I know people (shall remain nameless) who run original plates... I'm told it's useful for going thru open-tolling and thru bad neighborhoods (thwarts car theft afterwards).

I run an original 70 plate on my car too and keep the current tag under the passenger seat...
Was stopped once by law enforcement in another car I was running a vintage tag on. I forget what the tag was but it was an obscure combination that's now currently reserved for commercial vehicles only and my 240z didn't fit the bill. Needless to say I got to spend some quality time on the side of the road while he looked it up. In the end there was no problem, but it certainly slowed me down a bit.
