If you'd care to make a road trip up to Deer Creek Speedway in September - I'd be happy to put you up for the night at our home (5 miles from the track). Our "compensation" for running the DCS Kids Club is free all access passes to every show at the track... You'd have to buy your own ticket - I can't get comp passes for special shows. But we could go bombing around the pits in my golf cart prerace and postrace... ![]() If you buy a pit pass - I could get you inside the track for this type of photo op...

Thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it.
Tomorrow the WOO is here in Ohio at Attica Raceway Park, if I decide to go it's a lot closer, 100 miles. Then they're at Eldora for the night before the Kings Royal and the Kings Royal, Limaland Motorsports Park for the Brad Doty Classic, once more at Eldora for the Four Crown Nationals and in October Fremont Speedway all here in Ohio. I believe they're at Lernerville PA track 2 more times before the end of the season. That's one of the reasons I live in Ohio is there is a major sprint car race within 2-3 hours of me most of the summer. That's just the WOO schedule, The Allstar Sprint Series, S.O.D. Sprints on Dirt, and B.O.S.S, the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series, NRA Sprint Invaders, 360 sprints, OVSCS, Ohio Valley Sprint Car Series, all run here in Ohio multiple times each year, no need to go far to see wheels up 305, 360, 410 sprints all summer long. If that doesn't suit you there are Super Late models, limited late models, modifieds, street stocks all over the state too. There are no shortage of short tracks, paved and dirt here in Ohio (thank God most of them are dirt tracks )

Was a time when all one had to do was find a race on a couple of broadcast locations. Like the OP "When NASCAR Mattered" more reasons broadcast interests and attendance is in decline:
Just posted this on F1 thread to find Mikes post on "NASCAR in decline" thread which I agree with. Budapest Hungaroring practice today, Quali Saturday Morning, Race Sunday Morning "LIVE" on CNBC rebroadcast later on NBCSN. http://overdrive.in/news/f1-2014-hungarian-gp-preview/ |

If you are a fan, it's not a problem finding the race broadcast.
If you're not a fan, it really doesn't matter. Yes, back in the day most all of the races (NASCAR) were on TNN (The NASCAR Network as we used to call it). But of course folks without cable TV were screwed and couldn't watch. TNN went away and the races went to TNT, ESPN and other channels. Today I have my DVR set to automatically record all the Sprint Cup races so it's really simple. I would think anyone with the computer skills to post on this board would have the ability to do likewise. I'm a fan and enjoy watching the races. Unlike some here, I understand why it's better to attend the race in person, but budget and time doesn't permit that. Today's 60" flat screen HDTVs make watching (live or on DVR) much more tolerable than the old 27" CRT's of old. |

Bottom line is: If you like NASCAR then you'll watch it. If not you won't. HMMMMMM that applies to all sports. Don't degrade someones sport just because YOU don't like it.

They need to get a life!!!!! I hate it for them that running down NASCAR really gives them joy, it must be a really dull existence they have. Even if I had lost my interest in watching NASCAR because Dale died, or toyota was let in, it's not showroom cars anymore etc, or any of the multitude of excuses they use, I wouldn't come on PY and run down the current sanctioning body, nor pine for the way things were 40 years ago. Think about it, what is 100% like it was in the 60s, hardly anything. Time marches on even if your still stuck back 40 years ago. I'm betting none of the whiners still drive a sixties car for daily transportation and doesn't own anything newer, WHY NOT???? If everything was so good from that era, why buy anything newer, or upgrade to newer technology. They should be watching NASCAR on a black and white tube TV still and using a corded dial phone. And quit using the internet because there was none in the 60s. If you bitched about NASCAR then, you could only write letters, talk to someone face to face, or call someone on your corded dial phone.
